I dug through the github page, and found this https://github.com/Ghawken/FrontView/blob/master/FrontView/Plugins/Remote.Emby/Api/ClassAuthenicateByUser/AuthenicateByUser.cs  I cant be sure that is the right file for everything related to emby authentication but it looks like the last change was 6 years ago.  I don´t know much but this looks like it could be some authentication components?

            private string accessTokenField;

            private string serverIdField;

            private AuthenticationResultSessionInfo sessionInfoField;

            private AuthenticationResultUser userField;

Hi
It has changed before - was back in 2019 - so good chance either it has changed again or your username/password isn’t working.
Like the user a few pages back would try a new user without a password and see if that works.
Meanwhile I’ll have a look when/if can.

I found an option to not require passwords on the LAN so after enabling that front iew had no problems finding emby.  I have configured my device and user but I'm not getting now playing info.  I still want to tinker around with things a little bit but library syncing looks to be mostly working with a few possible caveats.  Thanks for responding to my questions.

Ok

Have a had good look at this once found the most uptodate code base.

Good news - this seems to be a PEBKAC problem.

I can login with standard name and usual password - Frontview finds details and connects (highlighted by appearance of the Emby logo).  Click Add and remote added.

Details illustrated below:

embyuserpage.png.2a84a49dcc3ab382a74fb8f82d636d4b.png

frontviewlogin.png.0a30f97237eb75d08bff18f7d2989c7c.png

Now the now playing Info - this depends on the selected User within the Emby Plugin FrontView API
The selected User is the one selected in the Emby Settings, Frontview API Plugin page - select the user and instance running.

eg. Glenn on Web Browser etc.

I found on my install I had a lot of entries here.  Can manually edit the %appdata/Roaming/Emby-Server/programdata/plugins/configurations file MediaBrowser.Plugins.Frontview.xml on the Emby Server if need to.  But be careful.

Delete the <DeviceInfoList></DeviceInfoList> entries.
Making sure to keep the rest there.

Will need to restart Emby Server after doing so.

The Plugin auto populates this when a new device connects.  Which functioned correctly on my install after deleting all devices, and then starting playback - this new device was found here.

Hopefully this helps

Glenn

@GlennNZ I'm having trouble getting the weather to work after setting that up.  I see a message in the error log about frontview not seeing a JSON file that is titled after my weather location ID.  I created the file but I'm not sure exactly what goes in there or how to format it.  Thanks.

You don’t create the file.  It will be created once weather connects.

Have you added/created the API key as needed?
Add the correct Key, location, and wait is basically all there is to it.

Hi, Firstly i want to say thanks for creating this its helped me create my dream HTPC!

Im having trouble with plex. I used to use it on kodi but ive switched to plex and cant get it to display anything. any advise is greatly appreciated.

my setup:  single machine with VGA touchscreen on HTPC & HDMI TV (2nd display) attached for watching media. plex server is installed on this machine and i use plex media player while watching it  on the TV  (no streaming, all connected directly to PC)

front view wont display anything while either playing local files or files from anothers server. (will it play from other sources or only local media/artwork, i dont know?)

I have connected and verified the remote, using a combination of local ip : 32400 and 127.0.0.1:32400 (does this matter? both player, server, and FV are on the same machine)

Tried email address and username, correct and wrong passwords:  both email and username both allow me to verify with a correct PW, a wrong PW fails, leading me to think that it is connecting (I dont know which im meant to use)

I installed the the frontview 1.330 x64 exe into program files and ran it. but nothing else (is there any config/plugins on the plex side i need to do)

The logs are below, I notice that it does appear to detect a video is being played, but dosent appear to react and that its seeing both 192.168.1.100 and 127.0.0.1.

ANY HELP WOULD BE SO MUCH APPRECIATED

This is the last part of of my setup i cant get right and i REALLY dont want to have to go back to kodi just to get frontview working again

Hi

Eek — Plex is borderline not supported I have to say!  Certainly compared to Kodi and Emby…

There may have been some plex changes causing this…. But the fact that it connects is a good thing.

Can you setup Frontview using the local IP address 192.168.1.100 in the Plex remote connection?
Obviously 127.0.0.1, and 192.168.1.100 in your scenario are the same - but that difference may still be enough.

The fanart exceptions - are expected; but I will have a longer look at log and see if I have a Plex install anywhere to test….  (Not sure that I do…)

Ok

Had a look - although haven’t tested.

Doesn’t seem to bad.  I believe the issue is the same theme that I posted above.. except probably the other way around.

Basically Frontview remote IP address for your Plex playback computer needs to be the same as Plex is reporting.

From looking at your Logs Plex is reporting IP is 127.0.0.1, would setup Frontview Remote using that IP address and try again.

thanks for the reply, still no joy on either 192 or 127

It does detect a video is playing as it switches from videos playing from 0 to 1 but frontview dosent do anything

Emby - should be fine - there haven’t been any issues for a while, the FV device can take longer than would like to appear.

09:28:16.9166] FrontView+Api-XXX : Checking against Local Playback only Client IP: 192.168.1.100
[09:28:16.9166] FrontView+Api-XXX : IP Address Playing now are:127.0.0.1

This is the Plex issue.  These 2 IP addresses need to be the same for FV to recognise it has the correct playback.
Probably Plex has stopped reporting IP address for local devices and only reports 127.0.0.1 - or it may be how you have connected this local Plex device to your local server..
As I said this check above from FV log is the issue - it finds videos playing (remembering could be multiple plex devices playing from same server).  So having a playing video isn’t enough, it needs to match IP address to check it’s playing on local device.

Thanks for the clarity!. do you by any chance know of a version of plex where it did report the real ip. Id rather run an old plex version and FV than any other method

Found some time.  Will see if can fix.  Should have answer either way in a few hours.

OK.

Despite multiple attempts - I cannot see the behaviour you are seeing.  Plex is reporting the IP address and Frontview starts playback for server played files.   NB: this doesn't include Web TV for example which the server has no idea about.

Have updated the code slightly likely to fix this - just trying to find the script to package together is taking a while.

Are you sure you have:

1. Deleted Plex Remote control from within Frontview+
2. Readded the Plex server remote using IP address 127.0.0.1 and port 32400 ???  (presume the server is on the same machine as playback as per your description)

This would seem to be the fix still..

If not can try this New Version - just for you...:

https://github.com/Ghawken/FrontView/releases/tag/1.331

Unforunately haven't been able to test - because Chrome Web and Plex Media Player all reported differently to you for some unknown reason.  (Updated to latest of everything as well)

Hi Glenn

Have moved over to Kodi matrix and so installed the matrix integration plugin, version 3.2 and updated Frontview to  Build 331.

Having an issue that the front view plugin crashes on kodi start-up. I have enabled login and seems its a python script error, here is the relevant extract:

Can you take a look or suggest what might be causing the crash?
kodi.log

Hi

The main issue is the “Remote {IP} Address not valid”.  There is a second error in the error handling - this is left over from python2-python3 changes.

The error here is that the IP address and potentially port is not valid.

Have you gone into Kodi Addons Frontview and setup the details? Check that and then just enable/disable button and see if makes difference.

Have been dabbling with going back to Plex and have managed to get frontview to show now playing info ok which is all I need, although if plex server is restated for a reason it oftern fails to reconnect until a restart.
While trying to diagnose a plex server crash I could see loads of GET /status/sessions entries in the logs, like below

around one every second. I realise that frontview needs to check if something is playing but it does seem like it's spamming the server a lot, is that normal?

@GlennNZI know that plex is borderline unsupported but it works well enough for my use case, just curious on the amount of polls to the server as my logs above show.

Hi

That is normal and to be expected.  As you see it is taking 0milliseconds, so no problem there.  Logging the line is probably using more resources than this short query.
It how all remotes, external control get info, Frontview is using the same.  I wouldn’t expect any impact - particularly if you have DEBUG logging off

Glenn, the now playing info isn't working for live tv on wmby server betas 4.7.x. Is there any way you might look into fixing this?  I'll post logs in a bit if need be.  Thanks
