On my setup, the aspect ratio of album covers in the Home view of the Web Interface is not correct, it is 16:10 I guess, while it should be squared, since it shows album covers. I'm on 3.0.5786.0. Can anybody confirm this bug?

Hello @@Luke

The new interface is definatly an improvement. Images are not scaled anymore.

However, this introduced another annoying thing:

when you have images with a wrong aspect ratio, the remaining space is empty. Somethings this is a little bit disturbing:

another thing:

when pictures are in portrait, the (landscape) thumb is still stretched:

my preferences:

- all thumbs same format (preferable square)

- no whitespace

- if thumb does'nt fit in the square, the rest is cropped.

next release ?  :-)

kind regards,

B

What are the dimensions of the image from your first two screenshots, compared to ones that are correct?

ah, small correction:

if I go to my localhost:

http://homeserver:8096/web/movies.html?tab=1&topParentId=bba2c4cf26243bc8dfc79f703df13dcf

if I use emby connect:

so a small difference.

(just clearing things out. Don't worry. I won't call the police)

@luke: your personal stylist here again:

previous layout

current layout

As you can see: David Bowie (Person) is stretched and apspect ratio is not correct. The rectangle image is pressed into the square.

No way to "autocrop and rescale" the image without stretching it?:

Much appreciated (especially by my wife :-) ) is this could be fixed

kind regards,

This isn't going to change, sorry. It looks sloppy when it's not expanded. If we allow it to crop then it brings a whole other set of complaints from a different set of users. that's why some slight aspect ratio stretching is allowed, within a small amount and this falls within that.

OK @@Luke, I can imagine that you can't sattisfy everyone.

Thanx for taking a look at this,

kind regards,

Bart

PS

>If we allow it to crop then it brings a whole other set of complaints

maybe you just have to try it once :) ?

I don't want the image to be cropped permanently, just in the search results: the display template could maybe modified that it is "visually cropped" in a way as I showed you above. Don't know if this can be done with html5 and/or css, but I assume that this is no problem.
Or other suggestion: display it on a new row, like in emby theater. It is less disturbing then (and more consistent between different kind of apps):

Hi @@Luke,

I have to come back on this again, sorry.

My library contains pictures and movies.

On my localhost they look like

56b1c967f0e49_3022016102909.png

on the public interface

56b1c925a5f9d_3022016103048.png

On the "localhost interface", the images is cropped. You can't see all the information anymore, but is is much more conveniant for me (and other users, I think....)

Another thing: why are images cropped and movies stretched? It would be more consistent to have same behaviour for both.

And at last: because you don't know the orientation of pictures/movies, a "best guess" would be to generate the thumbs in a square (cropped) format.

my humble thoughts...

kind regards,

B

@luke: this is how it looks like in Plex

56b277276af4d_030216225350.png

nicely cropped, no distortion. An option for emby too?

Another thing: the *-folder.jpg thumbnail for movies is picked up by other applications (like Plex here, showing the regular image). Can you consider to give the thumb another extention so it will not be showed in other applications?

regards!

B
