Team,

I know you all have been waiting for it, so we're going to make this available to our loyal Emby Premiere users. Although we're not ready to call it beta yet, it's closer to beta than alpha.

Everyone is welcome to download and browse around, and the full-feature set is available for Emby Premiere users. Since we haven't whipped up an installer yet, we're posting a portable test build here for you guys to play with. Just unzip and run from anywhere. This build will expire in a few days in order to force you to come back and download a new version, at which time we'll have the installer ready.

Currently the app requires an internet connection which allows us to host assets online for easy updating. Right now this is a period of rapid change and development, which is why this model is easiest for us. At a later date we will add offline support.

Features:

  • A responsive UI free of scaling. The app is rendered crisply at your native resolution, even at 4K.
  • Designed for a 10ft use with a remote, but works well with a mouse and with touch
  • Nearly all core Emby features and media types are supported
  • The audio and video players are based on DirectShow, which is still the high end option for Windows users.
  • Supports audio bitstreaming
  • Several methods of hardware acceleration are available - QuickSync, Cuda, and others.
  • Video refresh rate changing
  • Supports Madvr - Madvr is embedded and can only be enabled or disabled. Over time we'll expose more Madvr features in the settings screens.
  • Once again supports video backdrops, which are quite a fun feature
  • Supports input via video game controllers
  • Backdrop screensaver
  • Your local movie extras
  • Localization
  • Graphical in-video seek thumbs
  • Sign in Options - remember login

Short term roadmap (not ordered):

  • Live TV Recording management
  • Photo screensaver
  • Filtering, sorting, view changing
  • Graphical remote control seek menu
  • Coming up next
  • Play with more vertical designs

Let us know what you think. We've only had a small group working on this, so you can probably expect to run into small bugs throughout the app. Please post them here and we'll get them resolved.  And a major thanks to everyone in the dev and test group that has helped with this.

Installation:

Follow the instructions on our website: https://emby.media

Thanks, and this app should perform much better than previous. We have tested on an Intel Compute Stick and it runs well on that.

Well  done to Luke and the testing team, it's been a pleasure seeing it develop so well.

A lot of effort and dedication has gone in to getting it this far, something to be applauded.

I really love the app so far  :)

Great job Luke and all of the testers who helped make this come along. I have loved helping to test this App and I look forward to the remaining feature set being added as we go along. I hope the rest of the community loves this as much as I do.

Looks good. The 3 X 3 pixel grid is gone from all my content. Is there a Known Issues list?

For instance, adjusting the volume slider does not change the actual volume of the video. Adjusting the speaker volume in Windows directly does not have a visual response from the slider.

Hopefully, the vertical scrolling comes soon.

A Maximize button would be nice as well. In addition to the Fullscreen button.

Looks very professional, which is exactly as expected of you guys.

One thing is that when looking at movie info and scrolling down past the 'Similar to' section, you can just keep on going down and down, and hence have to keep scrolling back up and up to get back to the "Similar to' section again. That's using the scroll wheel on a mouse.

What do you mean 3X3 grid? Yes, we need to notify the app UI when changing volume within windows. Also are you not seeing the maximize button in the top right?

Thanks. This will exist for a little while due to a component we're using that requires specifying a fixed height. Will be removed later.

The previous version would show a 3 X 3 grid overlaid on any content that was not exactly 1920 X 1080. Something that has been a problem for two years. I've posted numerous threads on it over time. Never had a response that provided a solution.

I don't see a maximize button. See the screenshot below. All I see is minimize, a button that sets it to fullscreen, and exit. Full screen covers the taskbar which is something I would like to avoid.

Just to pester you a bit more, it seems to have a bit of trouble when I click on one of the folder items (if folder is the right word), and right arrow to the next, in that when it starts going off the side of the window, it seems slide the items that you can see off to the left. Hope a picture will show what I mean.....

I might need to see a screen of the old app, I'm still not sure what you mean, sorry.

For me, on initial run, no max/min buttons were shown nor was there any way to exit the program without clicking to close from the taskbar.  However, on the second run of the program those buttons appeared and I was given the option for Exit when I clicked on my user photo.

Don't have the old app installed currently. The absence of the grid is a good thing. Can actually watch a video in this new app without getting a headache.
