this would be handy but would also be nice to divide the workload

if a certain movie is in use a lot then have the workload spread to other servers automatically

I think that would be another request in itself, but would be an incredible feature!  Of course then you'd have multiple servers streaming "pieces" and the client would have to put it all together.  Not sure if an Amazon stick could handle that :P

We don't have merging at this stage, but you can easily switch servers from within Emby apps.

Yes, that is very handy.  My dad hops onto my server to play things from time to time.

That's not necessarily how it has to work. I think the way this should work is that you have a virtual cluster, the cluster decides which server is least busy and this server will encode/direct stream/etc. to your end/device. No extra load on the Amazon stick. The server side would need some, or rather a lot of, work though with a real database behind it that can be accessed by various servers at the same time, the LDAP needs to be completed, cluster module needs to be written, etc.

I'm not sure it's easy right now.

My friend and I linked our Emby instances and going between local server accounts on my Emby (i have four local users) and Connect to reach his server (I have one guest account on his instance) is rather cumbersome. I use Android TV for the most part.  He uses Apple TV.

As it is right now, I have to login to Connect (using a unique PIN) each time I want to access his server content.  And then logout of Connect each time one of the other users in the house wants to watch something locally.

True, Connect is not designed for multi-user situations.

If, instead of using Connect to access his server, you use a local account for his as well, you could stay within the normal connection mode and then much more easily switch servers.

So I made a new request for this which was closed because apparently this already existed.  So, has there been any headway made on this in the last 3 years since it was opened?  Is it on the horizon?  Being developed at all?  Any progress updates?

+1. Don't forget to click the LIKE button in the OP's post if you want this.

I'd like to use it to not only combine libraries, but Live TV as well. Whether local or remote connected servers.

Thanks

I'd love to be able to do this! I have two separate servers with multiple users accessing each and being able to combine them would be great

I would love this. I have Hetzner remote dedi that I use and share with a few family and friends. I would love to be able to setup a second server from my home connection just for Live TV

I have 2 emby servers. One is primarily ripped dvd movies/TV shows. The other is primarily live TV (via hdhomerun extend) in my father in law's home about 3 miles away (he has a much larger/longer range antenna than my home..... so the hdhomerun in my home doesn't get a lot of channels, particularly if there is any weather).

I would love to be able to merge the 2 servers into one so I don't have to keep switching servers.

Its just terribly inconvenient. I'm paying $50 a month for YouTube TV, basically so I can watch local channels easily from all the TV's in my home. I also have premier....which would save me $50 a month if it were more convenient (and "wife proof").
