Fayth 8
I like to rip the commentary on my Blu-rays, and rename the subtitle and audio track to indicate that they are commentary. It seems Emby web client (and I assume mobile apps but I haven't checked) just shows the language and some technical details, but does not show the name. Is there a way to enable this? If not, I think it would be something to think about adding, as it can be hard to tell which subtitle or audio track you should take for some media. For example, with anime there will be full english subtitles, then the english subtitles that go with the dub, and then the english commentary subtitles. Right now, other than the default or forced flag, those appear identical, despite my files having names that would differentiate them. Fayth 8
Yeah, when I rip my blu-rays using MakeMKV and mkvmerge. I guess I am kind of out of touch with other methods. I've never used open subtitles or anything because all that information is on my discs already. How does the typical user differentiate between tracks with the same language (audio or subtitles)? If there is a way that is commonly used that I don't know about I am open to trying it.
shorty1483 450
In containers like Matroska or MPEG4 there is the possibility to use the Title field to put in a Description for Video and Audio. In this Example, Audio: Audio #1 ID : 2 Format : AC-3 Format/Info : Audio Coding 3 Format_Settings_ModeExtension : CM (complete main) Format-Einstellungen für Endianess : Big Codec-ID : A_AC3 Dauer : 2h 2min Bitraten-Modus : konstant Bitrate : 384 Kbps Kanäle : 2 Kanäle Kanal-Positionen : Front: L R Samplingrate : 48,0 KHz Stream-Größe : 335 MiB (2%) Titel : 1978 2.0 @ 384 kbps Sprache : Deutsch Default : Ja Forced : Nein Audio #2 ID : 3 Format : AC-3 Format/Info : Audio Coding 3 Format_Settings_ModeExtension : CM (complete main) Format-Einstellungen für Endianess : Big Codec-ID : A_AC3 Dauer : 2h 2min Bitraten-Modus : konstant Bitrate : 384 Kbps Kanäle : 2 Kanäle Kanal-Positionen : Front: L R Samplingrate : 48,0 KHz Stream-Größe : 335 MiB (2%) Titel : 1993 SilverScreen LD 2.0 @ 384 kbps Sprache : Deutsch Default : Nein Forced : Nein When checking details of titles with different audio in supporting apps (e.g. Android, WebClient, iOS...) or when changing Audio during playback, it would be really useful to implement the display of the infos in the Title field instead of just showing language + Codec + bitrate + channels. This time a bad mockup, but this is how I kinda imagine: Thanks for your attention! Edited February 9, 2016 by elysium
Fayth 8
So I've looked into this some more, and it is definitely common that content with subtitles that comes from more "mainstream" sources have titles for their tracks. I mean, that is kind of expected, because I still don't see how there is any way to tell tracks of the same language apart without some additional information. Emby shows the default and forced flags, but those aren't sufficient to cover content with commentary tracks, not to mention the fact that they aren't user friendly at all. This isn't just about subtitles either, a good example would be episode commentary audio tracks, that you find on many Blu Ray releases (Game of Thrones is something popular that comes to mind as an example). Right now, the only thing I can do is set the normal episode audio to default and include the commentary as a second audio track. In all Emby apps, it will just say something like "eng -dca -DTS-HD MA -6ch (D)" for the normal track, and "eng -dca -DTS-HD MA -6ch" for the commentary track in the dialog where I can choose between them. As the person who rips the content, I pretty much always no what is what, because I follow the same process for all my rips, but its unreasonable to expect a user who doesn't manage the content to intuitively understand what the extra audio track might be. Sure, they could switch to it and check, but it just seems like an unnecessary problem. I still think this is something worth considering.
Luke 37009
is it really that common though? what does ffprobe produce as the output for it?
shorty1483 450
It's the same request as this one from me @@Luke http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/31123-feature-request-support-for-audio-descriptiontitle-in-mediainfo/ And yes, filling the title field is totally mainstream, specially in mkv scene like @@Fayth said. It's used for indication when having multiple streams in same language or the bitrate in lossless compressed formats like DTS-HD or TrueHD which usually cannot be read out by e.g. MediaInfo without reading the whole stream. A very good use case are the Despecialized Editions of Star Wars by Harmy. Edited March 8, 2016 by shorty1483

bfir3 113
This is also common with Anime releases that have different types of subtitles (for credits/songs vs. dialog).
