Problem in a few words:

When using the default safari browser on my phone i can stream any video i want to my phone.

However

When using Android Client 1.0.6 some videos stream to my phone and some do not stream to my phone and just have a white loading circle on top of a black screen.

Problem is not isloated to my phone i am also experiencing this with a Original Nexus 7.

And its only certain specific movies it is NOT random.

Long Story:

I have been using the Android Client on my phone since prob around beta 5 i think...

All my videos streamed great to my Samsung Note II phone...

During the betas a new beta would come out and i would update to it and SOME of my videos would not stream at all to my phone just a black screen with loading circle and some would stream like normal..

as the beta progressed sometimes the new betas would fix the problem and sometimes it would break again...

I was hoping it would resolve itself but it hasnt...

Today i Loaded 3 videos...

The first 2 videos did not load and the last one loaded.

Attached are the logs.

I'd like to see the server logs that cover those three playback attempts. The third video was direct streamed rather than transcoded where as the first two videos the client requested a transcoded video stream. If you still have them. The ffmpeg logs would be great too.

Thank you for the response.

I forgot to thank you for all your hard work.

The software you and the other developers have created is amazing my entire family uses it daily.

Here are the Server Logs and the Client Logs again.

BTW the i dont think it affects anything but MB3 is running on the server service.

In other words i turn on the server and do not have to log into the server in order to access it through the client.

Before during the beta i needed to actually log into the server in order for MB3 server to start.

Good stuff. Thats too much to look at on my phone. Have to wait till I get home. Maybe @@Tikuf will see something in the mean time.

@Eddie

Tikuf and I tried to go through these logs last night and found there was just too much information. Which is something we don't often get to say. Usually we're twisting arms to get logs. I believe the server was running a scan or other activity at the time so there was irrelevant info obscuring what we needed..

So I'd like to progress in smaller chunks, just one movie at a time. Can you first-off, go to

C:\Users\[your windows account]\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\cache\encoded-media

and delete the entire contents of that folder. It may be empty, but I don't think that's the case.

Once that's done, make sure your server isn't running any tasks. Start a new server log, from the scheduled tasks window. Then attempt to play back the movie that you say is pixelated. Provide the client, server and ffmpeg logs.

Also it would help if we knew a little more about that video, or at least what MB server knows about the video. If you could follow the guide at the bottom of this link, titled "Best way" and provide us that media info it would help a lot. Thanks.

i'm going to make sure the server periodically cleans out that folder, in the event the immediate deletion after playback fails.

K i followed directions

Video File name =  Beauty and the Beast (1991)

Video:mpeg4 • 720x576 • 5:4 • 1091 kbps • 25
Audio:mp3 • stereo • 192 kbps • 44100 khz

BTW the folder you had me clear had 4 gigs worth of info... 650 files all were 9 second clips of movies each file was like 8 megs.

The video plays pixilated and audio sounds normal.

Let me know what you think!
Thanks for the response

@@Eddie

I just tried almost exactly the same file type codec type etc

Video:mpeg4 • 608x368 • 38:23 • 1128 kbps
Audio:mp3 • stereo • 128 kbps • 48000 khz

on exactly the same device (note 2)

with same conversion settings (give or take a few kb )

with the result being (bit fuzzy due to orig source size) but...52a7fa46b9978_20131211162333.png

So I'm not quite sure what it happening to yours?

How does the file play outside mb ?

Sorry for taking so long to respond...

Thank you for the response...

All my movies plays fine on computer, Samsung Note 2, and nexus 7 when accessing it through the web browser there does appear to be some decrease in quality but thats okay..

When i play the movies on Media Browser Android Client though some dont load and 1 of them is very pixilated as in squares the size of my thumb are flashing all around the screen...

Some movies do play fine however....

If you guys are out of ideas i guess ill try a fresh reformat and try that... or i heard u can use external players... maybe that would help how would i go about trying that?

Thanks in Advance

I'd had a go at the two samples you sent Tikuf.

On my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 both videos play fine. The only issue I've noticed is my client misreporting the Aspect ratio of 5:4 videos as 4:1. That doesn't affect playback though.

Are you running a first gen Nexus 7 or second gen. The below screenshot is with my second gen.

Ty for trying it out...

I have old Nexus 7 just updated to 4.4.2

Video does not work when streaming using android mb3 only... streams fine playing over web browser though which is wierd...

Maybe I can try an external player if that fails ill maybe try reformat..

I might have one of those green wd drives with long startup time ill have to look...

I don't think it will be resolved by a reformat or changing drives. The dev team is always looking at our video playback in order to improve it globally and per client. You could try using an external player in the android client, that has it's own pros and cons.

The wierdest part of it was 101 dalmations was working on and off during beta... cant tell u which one but the early versions worked...I dont know if its possible but I would if given the files revert back to the early betas to figure out which update caused it to break.. but if im the only one with the problem then a reformat wouldnt hurt to try.. ill keep you posted

Thanks for the update. Both movies played fine for me, but a better copy of beauty and the beast wouldn't be a bad idea for you. Studios shouldn't be allow to take a widescreen movie and put it in a 4:3 frame. Black bars everywhere :)
