I am using MBS version 3.0.5083.27698. I have never tried to view videos via my web browser but was playing around with it tonight. This is from the same computer that it is installed on using Chrome.

I start playing an HD video and it plays for about 20 seconds then goes to a black screen. When I hit play again it restarts the video and does the same thing.

Here is the log:

Yes but a full log file. If it is too big to paste2 please post a link to it here from your drop box. (you may need to restart the server to enable debug logging)

That's fine no problem. Ok in the same folder you will see a corresponding log starting with ffmpeg can you please post the contents of that to paste2.

It could be either that your pc isn't converting quite fast enough to run the conversion to webm (slowest conversion) or the fact that ie has a hit and miss success with html5 video atm.

If you could post the ffmpeg log I will look at that. In the mean time if you have access to chrome you could run a test in that.

Cheers

The log that I pasted was the only one in that folder.

My test was run on the Chrome browser. I will run it again to see if that other log you mention shows up this time.

I just ran all the steps again and I still only get that one log showing in the folder that I pasted from before.

Hmm ok have a look in

%appdata%\MediaBrowser-Server\cache\encoded-media\

and delete the contents and try again.

Ok. I deleted what you told me to in that folder.

I cleared out the old log in the other folder and then opened MBS, went to the same video and not it is not stopping at that same point that it has been. It will not continue to play, however it pauses about every 20 seconds like it is buffering then continues to play. When it is playing it is a little jittery on the picture quality, much like when I try to play a video in MBT, which is why I don't use MBT and had to go back to MBC as all my videos play very smoothly there.

Anyway, there are two logs now in that folder (a server log and the ffmpeg one) but since the video did not do what it usually does I don't think they would be of any use right? I would suppose no errors would show up since the video is playing, albeit roughly.

I am pasting the logs in case they would still be useful, but let me know what you think.

Ok the issue is your cpu isnt quite fast enough to convert on the fly its converting at 21-25 frames per sec on the first section it gets a bit faster as it keeps going. Try hitting pause for a few seconds and the jitter should* clear up.

The issue was that you had a partial stream in that folder that was left after the server was shut down or something similar.

Ok. Thanks for all of your help on this issue.

I am sad to hear my computer may be too slow. Is this going to be an overall issue with MBS in general?  Would this additionally affect me streaming to my Android and Roku? I have some small issues there sometimes but never used it enough to bother checking out what the problem was.

I thought I had a decent set up, but again, I am not a Pro at all this by any means. It plays really nicely when I use MBC using the Lav filters. I never have any stutter, very smooth playback, etc. MBT is very bad with the stutter issues.

I guess it may be time to look into an upgrade, but that is probably going to be in the future somewhere.

The web client has to always do a full transcode where other clients can stream copy and direct play so that will lighten the load a little on the cpu plus h264 is properly multi threaded so it may be ok test and see :) .

Webm is our slowest converter as it is not truly multi threaded yet.

Not sure what the mbt issue is but remember it is a work in progress.

Ok, that helps me understand it all a bit better.

Yes, I am hoping that the MBT issue is just a mattering of waiting until it matures a bit further in development. My videos have all played fine on any other program I have used so far.

Anyway, thanks again for your help.
