Tv Season Folders

Can anyone help with this little problem that is driving me mad!

I have my Doctor Who seasons in a folder called Doctor Who

So It goes -

Doctor Who -

                       Season 1

                       Season 2

and so on.

It is set up in Emby server as a Tv series and that is the folder structure. However when media center is running and you click on the doctor who folder all is fine. But when you click on say season 12, instead of seeing the episodes it takes you to an empty screen with another folder called season 12 that you have to click on, before you get into the folder and see everything.

So it sets it up like this

Doctor Who -

                        Season 12

                                          Season 12

                                                            Episodes etc....

And yet the folder structure on the hd is not like that at all. If you set it up in the server as a movies folder it works ok, but you cant see the info on the episodes...its maddening.

I want to get rid of the middle layer of season folder structure, so that when I click season 12 for example, it takes me straight into the folder with the episodes ready to go.

Anyone got any ideas?

Something is not setup correctly.  Start by looking at it with both the normal web client and the metadata manager.  See anything odd there?

Also, are you using standard views or Legacy Browsing mode?

Hello

Ok yes it is in Legacy browsing mode. Its set like that so that the setup and look is as close to what I was used to in Media Browser 2.

I have a folder set up for Superheros and that is done as a movies folder. It all works ok, and in there I have put season 1 of Agent Carter and The Flash. They display correctly with out the extra season level folder and its in one made for movies. So i dont know what is going on with the Doctor Who one. Top Gear also does it.

I have checked through as much as I can, in the dashboard, Emby server and in the settings / spanner within Emby for Media center while its running to no avail. Do you have any more advice please?

Are you putting Doctor Who (TV) in a movies library?

Yeah, that's what it sounded like to me too.

That is probably not going to work very well if that's the case.

No I am not putting Doctor Who in a movies library!

It is in a folder for tv series. And that is what I get, that extra season folder that is driving me nuts and I cant get rid of it. All the information displays correctly though.

If I put a tv series as a movie folder it misses the extra season folder stage but none of the info for it displays.

HOWEVER

I have a movies folder set up as movies for SUPERHEROS.

All my Avengers and Spiderman and Batman stuff is in there. I decided to dump my FLASH and AGENT CARTER folders in there, and they work. No extra season level folder, and the info displays correctly.

Anyone care to explain that?

I know one thing. I hate EMBY. I loved Media Browser, because everything just worked fine. Since being forced to update to Emby I have had no end of problems from not being able to get the themes I want that still does not work no matter what I do, to this stupid extra season folder problem.

i have wiped the machine and set everything up fresh as well and to no avail.

Oh well.

first thing to do is check the server's web interface and see how it appears there. does it appear correctly? that will help tell us where the problem is. thanks.

Ok Gang

I was away for a few days and now I am back and looking into this and I am still trying to solve it.

In the server web interface the folder for Doctor Who is set up like this -

Doctor Who

Content Type:Tv

Media Locations

E:\Doctor Who

Thats it, no other paths and E: is the internal hard drive its on. I just noticed that the 2005 revived series thats in another folder and it does the SAME THING is set up as mixed content and not Tv. I will change it to Tv and see what happens. But it has the extra season level folder I cant get rid of.

Ok I changed it to Tv, by removing it altogether and setting it up again as Tv. But it still does the same. If you click on season 6 for example, it comes up with an empty folder. Click that and it takes you into the content. I want to get rid of this extra stage and just go back to clicking season 6 and seeing the episode thumbnails and content description the way its supposed to be. I have checked inside the physical folders and there are no extra dirs no extra scripts or anything else, just the episodes and the meta data folder with the descriptions and thumbnails.

Any clues chaps?

Okay, there is your problem right there.

You pointed your TV library to an individual TV Series.  You need to point it to the parent folder of "Doctor Who" and then it finds all the series within it.

I see you don't have a parent folder so be sure and create one as you don't want to point a media folder at the root of a drive.

Erm ok.

"pointed to an individual tv series"

How else do you need to do it?

It is pointed to a folder called Doctor Who. Inside that folder are the seasons in order like this -

Doctor Who / Season 1

                      Season 2

                      Season 3

And so on. That is the way it has always been and its how media browser used to do it.

So am I supposed to make ONE folder for tv series and put EVERYTHING into it that is a tv series? Like this for example -

Tv Series / Doctor Who

                                     / Season 1

                                     / Season 2

/ Season 3 and so on..

                / Top Gear

                                    / Season 1

/ Season 2 and so on

               / Breaking Bad

/ Season 1 and so on you get the idea...

If that is the case then that is another step BACKWARDS for Emby over Media Browser, as you could just point it at a folder and say it was tv and get on with it and that was it.

I have a lot of different Tv seasons spread across three HDD and that would mean I would have to move them all around just so that Emby works the way Media Browser used to.

Anyway if that is the case I dont have a choice. Let me know if I am right or am I way out here?

Thanks!

This is no different than the old MB.  if it worked for you before setup as you have it, then that was a coincidence.  The product has never been designed for you to have to setup a media folder for every single TV series you own and have to add another one with each TV series.

it is designed for you to point it to a location that contains all your TV series and let it discover and adjust to them as they come and go.  This is how it has always been.

I see , so the folders are set up wrong. Ok Fair enough.

It is a bit stupid though. What happens if you have more than one hard drive with stuff on like I do?

Because of the size of the ripped shows, some are on one drive that has more space, than the other that has less. So I have to move all my media to one drive, all my eggs in one basket so to speak? What happens if the drive fails and I loose the lot?

I never had a single problem with Media Browser. Any version, with years of service and set up like this since 2009. So in 2015 I have to move gigs worth of data around just so the thing works properly? I am supposed to put my animated tv series kids stuff in with stuff like Game of Thrones? Its mad.

Thanks for the help though. I am either going to live with it or look for another program to do this with as it just does not work properly for me any more, or fit in with my hardware setup.

Cheers.

No.  Media folders can contain multiple media locations.  Just add all your drive locations wherever appropriate.  Again, this is how MB has been designed from the very beginning.

Also, if you are going to be building a large number of drives, I would definitely look into drive pooling solutions.  They will make your life much easier.

I think you are over complicating things and then complaining that it is over complicated... You just need to add each folder that contains a bunch of TV shows to your TV show media folders setup in Emby server

Hi Gang

Ok I took your advice and went off and reorganised

I made a folder on each drive called TV SERIES and into it I put ALL the Tv series I had on each drive. I have two drives full of stuff.

I then went into Emby and deleted everything, all the setup the lot. I went into all the hidden folders and made sure everything was gone.

I then set it up ALL over again. Made the folder for the show a tv series and pointed it to the folder it was in eg - D:/Tv Series/Doctor Who

I rebuilt the library and finished the setup. Rebooted the machine. Went into Media Center and Guess What???? NOTHING HAS CHANGED!

It STILL puts the extra season level empty folder in the way!

I did discover something new though. If a Tv series has only ONE season available, it does not do it. So the Flash , DareDevil and Agent Carter for example all work. Anything with more than one season, like Doctor Who or Top Gear always have the extra folder you have to click on before the content for the season appears.

This is getting like the Bermuda Triangle. Unexplainable.....

Any ideas??? Please?

It looks like you're still doing it wrong.

You should *only* be adding "D:/TV Series/" to Emby marking it's content as "TV". Do NOT add each individual TV series.

Starting from scratch - if you have two drives with a "TV Series" folder on each (e.g. D:/TV Series/ and E:/TV Series/) with a bunch of actual show folders inside each (e.g. D:/TV Series/Dr Who, D:/TV Series/Arrow, D:/TV Series/Extant, E:/TV Series/Mr Robot, E:/TV Series/Playing House, etc) - then you should create ONE entry in Emby called "TV" set as content type "TV" and then add "D:/TV Series/" and "E:/TV Series/" to it, and that's all).

I have a similar setup for my "TV Archive" folder - it looks like this in Library folder setup:

AHH I SEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But how does it know what is Doctor Who etc?

Oh wait a minute! I have all the meta data and the folders and artwork for them. All I need to do is point it to the TV series folder and it does the rest. Ok got it, I will try it tonight when I get home. I am not worried about it messing up my artwork and so on as I dont have an internet connection so it cant change anything or do any damage, and the folder artwork is all in place in the folder, for the series overall. Like the Doctor Who folder has its own artwork I created and so on. I will be REALLY pleased if this works and I can stop stressing about it.

Thanks for your help!
