Parental Controls

Can someone tell me where they moved the parental controls to in the new version? It used to be a tab on the configurator but it's not there on the new version. Can't have the kids watching R rated movies. LOL

My kids have xboxes in their rooms that they use as extenders. Can you still use profiles to do that? If so, please elaborate. Thanks.

The new Parental Control is very different from MB2 that I still prefer for simple usage (ie only 1 profile). My proposal is a compromise:

1) Add a check box in the user profile that allow to show the cover of the blocked movies.

2) If the box is checked allow the possibility to insert a password code to unlock the movie (as in MB2)

In this way it's still possible mantain the compatibility with MB2 allowing the possibility to unlock the movies whitout logout and login with a new profile and find the movie again...

Thanks

Just set up the profiles on the server and when they start MB via their xbox, they will get a log in screen.

So basically what you are saying is that the only way with MB3 to get this working is to create separate profiles for my kids and for myself. This is a huge pain compared to the old way b/c now every single time I open media browser I have to put in a password to get it to even come up. Who wants to have to log in with a password every single time. I can understand and don't mind the kids having to enter that password for their profile and then have it only show the items with the PG and below ratings but this is not nearly as user friendly as MB2. is there some way I haven't thought of to make it work like MB2 did? I want it to simply fire right up every time and only ask for a password when we want to watch an R rated movie. 99 times out of 100 we are all watching PG and we only have a few rated R movies and it was really nice to only have to enter that password on those few occasions. Please let me know if that can be done that way now or if not can it be a feature request for future updates. Thanks.

Create a "Family" profile and give it no password and a max rating of PG-13.  Then use that profile the 99% of the time.

The shift to profiles gives us so much more than just parental controls so I don't see us moving away from it.

We are not asking to move away from it but to extend the current "Parental Control" in a way that can also allow a simple management like in MB2. For example I'm using a max rating of PG (my baby is under 13). That's mean that to watch PG-13 films I have also be present and that the filter is moving out more than 50% of movies. The current implementations add more complexity that is not needed for this kind of usage: I don't have to hide porn cover. So please consider also this option.

Thanks

But, doing that also creates a very confusing setup.  With two completely different ways to implement basically the same feature it makes it confusing for a new user.  This is exactly the kind of complexity we are striving to eliminate.  Most people in today's world understand a user profile.

Please add at least the possibility to switch user from inside the MB3 Client. Supposing that I'm browsing a library and I want quickly see al the movies inside, should be the possibility to switch user easily (with the password if required) without log-out then log-in and then return back to browse the same library.

A switch user function might help with this function. Mbt support this a little better then mbc imho.

I may be wrong, but if I remember right you can't do on the fly changing of users. You could probably have a logout area on any page, but it would have to close everything down and restart from the login page.

I plan to work on making switching users much easier.

GC is right, technically, we have to re-start the app but I can hopefully, make it still just a few clicks for the user to be able to do that.

In MB2 was easy to do that: every solution has pros and cons. I hope that ebr will does not make us regret the MB2 implementation. :)

Now it's better ! Now I can also set MB3C to autologin to the default user and still be able to switch user If I need (before was impossible).

To reach the perfection should be implemented also these features:

1) Remove the initial spash-screen when switch user (nice to have)

2) After the switch try to restore the same browser collection that was selected at the moment of the switching (more than nice to have)

Thanks

Again - if there were no splash screen there would be a blank screen and that is just poor design so I'm not going to do that.  Plus the splash screen confirms that you chose the right user.

On the second point, maybe at some future time but not all users have access to the same items so wouldn't always be possible.

I do agree that some kind of feedback is necessary. But since I'm using the user profile to have different levels of parental control, all the libraries are shared. In this case will be possible to access the same items and in case is not possible it's always possible just login to the home screen (like now).

This feature will makes the MB3 Parental Control behavior similar to MB2 or even better..

Thanks
