Crestj 67
Using emby for WMC v3.0.283.0 Windows 7 x64. When I enter a tv show or movie with a video backdrop the screen flashes then tries to play it but the emby overlay becomes a silhouette. It then fails but all I see is the WMC backdrop. Emby is still active as I can hear the beeps as I navigate blindly! I thought it was the LAV filters I had so I went with the standard Shark007 codecs at default. No change. Any ideas? ebr 14850
Definitely sounds like a codec or video driver problem. Can you narrow it down to specific video backdrops?

Crestj 67
After spending much of last night (and this morning) playing very carefully with the codec pack settings I seem to have it working 90% now. All my videos play with the correct sound output using DXVA, etc so that's all good. I only have an issue, it seems, with the video backdrops the first time they try and play. If I go into a tv show, quickly press the back button and then go into the tv show again it plays it fine. If I leave it the video stutters so it only shows the first frame or 2 then the Emby overlayed text (show details, icons, etc) all go black and silhouetted. Then the whole screen just shows the WMC blue default backdrop. I've tried to find the video files used for these backdrops but have been unable so it's a little tough to test against a file directly. TV Show backdrops that work: NCIS, NCIS LA. Don't work: Touch, Arrow
Scott84Z28 39
Saying what shows work or don't work don't say much. You need to check the actual backdrop theme videos for those shows on your server and see whats different about them.
Crestj 67
Well I'm guessing the video backdrops we all have are sourced from the same place so most likely others are using the exact same video files. Problem is I cannot find them.
Scott84Z28 39
You can't find them? They are located in a hidden folder called Backdrops with each movie/TV show. They file names should all be theme.something (mostly mp4).
Crestj 67
ha ha ha ha I thought I was already showing hidden items!!!!! I see them now!
Crestj 67
OK small update, binned Shark007 as I wanted the clean LAV filter only setup. Watching task manager when I go into the problematic tv show for the first time I see wmplayer.exe*32 process getting about 30% CPU whilst the WMC screen (windowed) goes crazy. When I use the 32bit media player to play the same theme.mp4 file outside of WMC I get the audio but no video. It's definitely a codec issue with this file and other theme MP4's. Here are the details of this particular file. General Complete name : C:\Users\admin\Desktop\theme.mp4 Format : MPEG-4 Format profile : Base Media Codec ID : isom File size : 4.71 MiB Duration : 52s 142ms Overall bit rate : 758 Kbps Writing application : Lavf56.7.104 Video ID : 1 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : Baseline@L3 Format settings, CABAC : No Format settings, ReFrames : 1 frame Codec ID : avc1 Codec ID/Info : Advanced Video Coding Duration : 52s 94ms Bit rate : 626 Kbps Width : 624 pixels Height : 352 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 23.976 fps Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.119 Stream size : 3.89 MiB (82%) Audio ID : 2 Format : AAC Format/Info : Advanced Audio Codec Format profile : LC Codec ID : 40 Duration : 52s 142ms Duration_LastFrame : -10ms Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 128 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Channel positions : Front: L R Sampling rate : 44.1 KHz Compression mode : Lossy Stream size : 815 KiB (17%)
Crestj 67
@@ebr, this is starting to look like an emby issue as I can consistently get this to fail on first entering a video backdrop but going out and in again plays it perfectly. This wouldn't happen if it were codec related. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
tman 47
Similar (but not quite) the same problem here. My theme videos never show when entering the media item on my main HTPC, but they are playing. They just seem to play as the background to the main WMC interface. If I press the green button when in Emby, I can see the theme video playing on the main menu. Never got to the bottom of it, despite numerous Emby Classic updates and various updates to the Theme plugins. I just live with it now.

EMC really has very little to do with actual playback.

That sounds like you may be using a theme or setting that doesn't show video as a backdrop.
Crestj 67
My logic for it not being a codec issue was because it plays fine the second time. I did recently update the amd catalyst driver set, it wouldn't be the first time they've buggered everything up.
Crestj 67
Typical! Downgraded the amd driver set and it's all working perfectly!! Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
