Deihmos 154 Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 (edited) But you don't get the Emby experience. You have to faff about trying to find a skin that suits your style and then they're not always 100% the same. When I used MBC I got the same exact experience unless I am missing something. My home screen in MBC had the same stuff as kodi. Movies, TV, recent movie and recent episodes. In kodi I have other stuff like ESPN live sports but pretty much the exact same thing to me. ebr 15352 Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I would like to go to minimalist everything. The server has become so cluttered with too many settings located in different areas and features that I can't imagine many using like auto organize and I now see a mic for voice. It has become disorganized with inconsistent UI choices. That's just my opinion. I think this is what people are saying about the general Kodi experience. I agree that EMC has too many options too and some skins (ahem... subdued) have waaaay too many. This is what you get when you try to tailor things to everyone and be customizable. There is a fine line somewhere but this is also why we usually balk at the standard suggestion for new features of "just make it an option". 1
Deathsquirrel 743 Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Have to agree about Kodi being a dismal user experience. It is similar to the result you would get if you asked a bunch of adolescent school kids to design the ultimate car - wings, wheels, rockets, guns, ejector seats and spoliers! Too much (pointless) functionality and all those skins which all seem to have different functionality. Ideal for geeks I guess but I just want to be able to watch TV and films and not have to explain to family and friends where everything is; or isn't if you swap skins! Unfortunately it has developed into a product that wants to be all things for all enthusiasts with no thought for the general public. Emby is as close as it gets to a domestically acceptable product. Sooo for a mascot can they have Tux driving a Canyonero? 1
CtrlAlt7 10 Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 Thanks for all the responses guys. I actually tried Kodi on my HTPC but preferred the look and feel of Emby for WMC. It works well just WMC is old and can be buggy at times, I wont be sorry to see it go. I may try using the Windows 8.1 app with a PC remote hopefully that works.
pclausen 42 Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 (edited) So what's the reason we don't have an Emby skin for Kodi that closely resembles ET and does not require doing a lot of configuration post install? About once per quarter, I do a clean install of Kodi and get it working with Emby, but within a week, I end up reverting back to ET running on Windows 10 pre-release (soon be to released) because there are just too many minute differences that I don't like and some major ones. The wife also hates the Kodi navigation compared to Emby. Edited July 22, 2015 by pclausen

pclausen 42 Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Thanks. I'll keep an eye on that thread. My vote would be for a simple skin that resembles ET but with an option to select a "wall view" with more than 2 rows.
Sparrowlogins 18 Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Just want to bump the original having of the post and ask - Is there a place to find out how far a new emby theatre is progressing? Are we weeks/months away? Can we have more regular communication re the newer update even if it is that there is still work to do? I have been eagerly awaiting a new version for months patiently. I will continue to wait but would appreciate if we could have regular updates so that we are not just left hanging. Not a coder either so can't assist, just a user who loves emby. 2
Luke 38501 Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 We have a dream team working very hard on the new version of Emby Theater. Timeframe is definitely on the order of weeks and not months. 19
mattyg8 18 Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Sounds awesome cant wait to see what you have come up with!
DigiTM 60 Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 We have a dream team working very hard on the new version of Emby Theater. Timeframe is definitely on the order of weeks and not months. Weeks? Did you have to say that? It's now like being a young kid the night before, waiting for Santa to bring his/her presents. 4
AmericanCrisis 28 Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Do you guys think this new version of theater will be a suitable replacement to WMC? Will I be able to playback live TV within Theater? How about have access to a Live TV guide? Right now my HTPC (which doubles as the server) boots into WMC where I obviously can go to Emby (watch my media) or WMC TV (watch live TV). How do I replace something like this in a minimalist manner? I am using an OTA Hauppauge tuner so no problems with encrypted channels. ServerWMC has been so solid I am really hesitant to switch just for a Win 10 upgrade (currently running 8.1 pro).

I very seriously doubt that what is effectively a 1.0 offering from this team will be ready to replace WMC out the gate. Awesome if it does, but that sounds ambitious. I'm sure they plan to get there but probably not day one
MSL_DK 35 Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Please take a look here. Any chance that this will work with the new ET version? It doesn't with the current one.
joshhuggins 20 Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 We have a dream team working very hard on the new version of Emby Theater. Timeframe is definitely on the order of weeks and not months. This is encouraging. Had been feeling like everything but the Emby Theater app was getting all the love. 2
Griffo 3 Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Cant wait. I need a new front end! My current setup was Argus TV, MediaPortal, and EMBY. It was working perfectly for probably a year. Then I updated MB3 to Emby and no longer have a complete solution. WMC - dead and buried really. Lack of features MediaPortal - EMBY plugin abandoned, no longer works Kodi - Buggy and unstable in my experience Emby Theatre - current version too limited with TV
pclausen 42 Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 We are almost at the "weeks" point since 7/30. In fact, day after tomorrow, we'll be there. 2
MSL_DK 35 Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I'm sorry not believing this statement. I've seen this with the iOS app. Theater and iOS app, is the only way for me to enjoy my movies ... And it has been an long walk.
Shaun 93 Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 (edited) Its like an iceberg, all the activity can't be seen below the water. It doesn't mean, its not happening. (how about those double negatives ) Edited August 11, 2015 by Shaun
Nelcruz 2 Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 How about some teasers leading up to the release of theater 2.0 1
Luke 38501 Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 There's heavy active development. Hopefully we'll have some kind of beta by the end of the month. 8

Maniac1982 3 Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 +1 to test out your beta version. I cannot wait for this to come out. I probably speak for a lot of people in saying, I would happily pay for this! Chris 3
