Remote Control

Are there plans to code the windows app so that it can easily be controlled with a standard Windows MCE remote control. This way I don't have to use something like Kodi to view my Embry content ...

The only thing Kodi currently offers me is the fact that I can sit on the couch and view my Embry content through it's UI ... you already have a UI in the Windows 8.1 App ... it's just not designed for remote control access ...

Just a thought .....

Actually, when you start the app the first time you can choose to use the Interface designed for touch or the one for keybaord and mouse. If you choose mouse the app works with MCE remotes.

It's not perfect yet, but most of the stuff functions.

To change to this layout once the app is installed, bring out the charms-menu, click Settings -> General and enable the "Use Mouse and Keyboard layout" option.

Thanks - did you see the. question I had about offline access ... I can't get how to access my offline content ( that's already been sync'd ) when starting the Windows 8.1 device while not connected to the internet ( in the plane ) .... the app won't start unless I can connect to the server .....

I'm afraid the the support for MCE remotes is still not usable for my Music library, and there's a bug for my Movies library. The MCE remote works to get into the Music Library, but as soon as I go into Album or Artist view, I can no longer navigate around using the arrow buttons. For the Movies library, navigate around the collection worked at first, but then the selection box went up to the top row of letters (#, a, b, c, etc.), and I couldn't move down into the library items...

Hi

As a tester my thoughts...

Remote support is still a work in progress, there is a lot going on. :)  In music you should find good support for latest, favorites, genres and playlists. The aggregate views still need some work.

Movies are similar Latest, in progress, Suggested, collections,  genres , Favorites are all pretty good. All Movies needs some tweaks.

TV is pretty good overall.

LiveTV is really starting to get there!!

Channels, Video's, Photo's at a high seem fine. But I am sure need further input.

7Illusions is great at hammering these out !!. We just need to get them on the list

Just my luck to want to navigate in the sections that are still iffy :-)

I'm sure that it will get there. What would be really icing on the cake would be support for jumplists driven by the numeric keypad on my MCE remote. Then I could really kiss goodbye to Windows Media Center (after all these years...).

Hi,

Can you give some detail on how you would want jumplists to work?

Perhaps I'm using the term "jumplists" in the wrong context, but this is what I mean:

A standard MCE Remote has a number keypad, and the number keys also have the letters of the alphabet associated with them as here:

So, for example, the "2" key has the letters "ABC" associated with it. In Windows Media Center, if I press the key once, WMC will jump to show the first item in the collection that starts with an "A". If I press the key twice, WMC jumps to the first item starting with "B", and pressing the key three times will take me to the first item starting with "C".

It's just a convenient short cut to jump into a large collection, rather than keeping my finger pressed on the left or right arrow buttons for what seems like a long time...

No

That's good, is the level of detail 7 needs, no guarantee it will get done, but am confident 7 will at least consider it. :)

7 just started a new thread for feature requests in the beta forum if you want to add it there

Sorry, I guess someone else can add it unless you want to ask to join the beta testers

Nope, can't see it - don't have permission... Not sure that having a Feature Request thread in a restricted forum is necessarily a good idea, but what do I know?

Ah - I see that 7 has added it. Thanks for that!

Not sure if this is the right forum but I have conducted some testing last night on two different remotes I have found similar issues.

Basic navigation works fine but trying to access the context menu to gain access to functions such as shuffle play, play to etc. is impossible.

Not sure if this goes here under remote control or in the Android area, but here goes:

I've been using Media Browser in WMC for years, and am REALLY trying to make Emby (server) work for me but I keep running into show-stoppers that force me back to Kodi.  Lack of skins and configurability I can live with, but lack of Home theater remote control using a standard programmable remote (Harmony 650) is just such a show-stopper.  Emby currently seems to support only Touchscreen or Mouse/Keyboard input devices.  Navigation buttons on my remote control just scroll the screen up and down--I can't navigate or select anything like I can with Kodi or with WMC and Media Browser through an xBox extender.  I'm trying to get away from the no-longer-supported xBox extender, and was happy to find a very capable Android media player (Tronfy MX-3) with XBMC on it.  I installed Emby for Android which works great EXCEPT that I have to use a Bluetooth keyboard with a touchpad to control it.  My Harmony 650 works fine in XBMC/Kodi and with all the other Android apps on that box--just not with Emby.  Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing, or is this another not-yet-supported feature?
