It would be good if it could just probe for the first play of a channel and then remember the decision for subsequent plays. That would solve everyone issues with direct play TV.

What happens if audio changes? For a game show it is 2.0 and for a movie it is 5.1. What happens if probing is done while a commercial is running? You don't get subtitles in a movie.

yep, you are correct, there are many permutations. Nothing is easy. But regardless of how its done. Emby will still probe during a commercial at some point... Perhaps, the user can pre-select a profile to match what they know about the channel. eg Mpeg2/2.0 for SD channels and h264/5.1 for HD channels. Just throwing things out there :)

Or as demanded many times like in this thread: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/29478-feature-to-force-directplay-only-without-any-detection-and-disable-all-transcoding/

just give the users an option to force direct play (without probing) per device!

It's not that simple. You want subtitles to be supported, right? Some devices could probe client-side, but some can't.

But i know what my device can handle and i could test myself if the specific app is able to probe the stream or if it has to be done server side. But without an option we will never know it! Give the users the right to make their own decission.

Well sure, that's definitely possible, but can you first help us make it work better automatically?

For the few file types i have and the Emby apps i really use, all is working as expected currently.

If something doesn't work, i report it of course [emoji6]

And just to double confirm: Live TV / scheduling within emby will work fine with the HDHR4-2DT Australian model?

Hi All, any movement or plans on OTA data? I tried ICE TV but it was pretty much impossible to get the channels mapped as i live in an area where my antenna picks up multiple regions with overlapping channels. The channel data is sometimes slightly different which OTA data handles just fine but Emby doesn't allow me to map the same channel number/name more than once. Deleting channels to make it work manually isn't ideal as often they air different shows in the other region even though the channel name is the same. See below for my HDHomerun output if it helps:

Hi All, any movement or plans on OTA data?

Because Emby still lacks OTA data and decent channel management, I suggest to try out TVMosaic server.

It has decent channel management and OTA EPG support and when you have setup all your channels in there, you can export a complete m3u from TVMosaic for using it as an m3utuner in Emby and ALSO use an XMLTV URL from TVMosaic server into EMby which creates an xmltv listing for other programs than TVMosaic to provide OTA guide data.

The m3u export from TVMosaic server contains all the necessary tags for Emby to fill your guide. The only thing you have to do for channel numbers from TVMosaic to get into Emby, is to replace the following tag:

tvg-chno replace with: channel-id

For your OTA guide in Emby from TVMosaic:

TVMosaic prepares your m3u export with tvg-id's with unique id's, regardless of channel name (if they are duplicate or not). It uses the internal TVMosaic channel identifier for the tvg-id's, so you don't get into any problems in Emby for using the same tvg-id's, because they don't exist in the exported m3u from TVMosaic. In Emby you can then use the following link from TVMosaic server for the guide provider:

http://<tvmosaic server address>:9270/mobile/?command=get_xmltv_epg&days=<number of days>

Number of days is optional, more info here: https://forum.tv-mosaic.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=246

You can also use NextPVR, with Emby NextPVR plugin if you want to use OTA EPG with your channels in Emby.

Thanks for the suggestion, i gave this a try and managed to get about 1/3 of the channels populating with data but some how ended up with 2-3 channels that were populating completely wrong channel data and couldn't figure out how to fix it, it was correct within TVMosaic so some kind of mapping issue. I then tried NextPVR plugin but that doesn't populate the emby channel list (at least i couldn't see how). The challenge i have is i can't use Embys channel mapping option to fix things - i need emby to find it on it's own in xmltv. If i try to map manually i need to delete channels due to embys limitations handling mappings.

I'm now using EPG Collector (the one on Sourceforge) to grab multiple regions of channel data and dump to a file leaving only about 10% of the channels unmapped, none are wrong so i'm almost there (it's ability to change the channel format id helps immensely). Strangely emby has the wrong channel icons for some channels but the data is correct. eg, the icon will be for channel 7, but i'ts actually SBS, the description text, show summary and everything is correct except the icon. I just need to painfully try each region until it fills out missing channel data, then clean up/remove the unneeded regions (there are like 100 regions my card can pull OTA data for). It's taking 10mins+ to get the data and my channel data file is pretty big (10MB or so of text lol) so i've got a lot of trimming to do.

If you got correct results in TVMosaic, then you can try the DVBLink plugin in Emby.

This plugin also supports TVMosaic and last weeks update of this plugin finally makes it practical for using it in Emby and that’s why I didn’t mention this option before. Because now, you can setup this plugin only to import favorite list from TVMosaic you choose, into Emby. Before these updates, it imported all channels from TVMosaic into Emby.

So when using this plugin, you don’t have to use the m3utuner in Emby anymore and also don’t have to use a guide provider in Emby, because the plugin does all that for you.

Because this plugin uses the TVMosaic API, all recordings you schedule in Emby, you see back in the TVMosaic software/apps and vice versa.

In Adelaide , i installed tvheadend as a virtual machine then used that as a service to get the guide OTA in emby.
And i also use the tvheadend pvr client in kodi as well.

Just an update on where i am at, i've now got OTA EPG data populating for every channel. I'm using EPG collector to make me a xmltv file from OTA data.

One of the things Australian users need to do to make it work best is go in to the epg collector output options and change the Format of the channel ID drop-down to "user channel number". This uses the LCN which is defined in Australia (probably NZ and others too), see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_digital_television_channels_in_Australia. The LCN is what the HDHomerun app (which just works out of the box) uses to identify the channel and match to EPG.

I basically added all the frequencies for the areas i could reach into the epg collector config, scanned them all then went through and removed frequencies to trim duplicate data to cut down on the scan times. It's worth mentioning that with the LCN as the channel id format in epg collector the guide was 100% correct even with duplicate data in the xmltv file. I only removed frequencies to drop the size of my xmltv file and drop the scan time.

Once EPG Collector was pulling everything i needed i just created a scheduled task in windows to run epgcollector.exe once per day at 4am.
