Just wanted to report that in this server version I'm seeing web client sessions being added to devices again. Which then of course causes an issue for any of my users that have been restricted to only their devices they own such as their Roku. These users can't login to the web client anymore.

Version 3.0.5637.14865

This problem still exists where no one can sign on the web client because I've limited users to devices, and each browser for each user is creating a new device that I have to approve.

This problem still exists, browser versions are being considered devices.

What is the point of restricting users to a specific device if they can just bypass that using a web browser on any device?

To avoid having to see other users on any client/device that no one else would need access to thus allowing them to just see only their user profiles that use that specific device. Which works great except now none of them can sign on the web client because of the browsers being added as devices again.

I personally would like to hide all users from the web client and require manual login for all web client sessions while not hiding from other clients, but that would need to be a separate thread with a request for that function. Much easier to manual login on computer/tablet then say a Roku.

Version 3.0.5639.15983

This appears to be fixed from a local browser, as local browser connections aren't being placed under devices. External address browser connections seems to still generate a browser in the device list and users that have been restricted to certain devices still cant login on the web client.

Don't have Emby Connect setup at all. Confirmation that people are seeing browsers listed in their device list would confirm that this is broken though as that's not suppose to be happening unless something changed about that policy that I haven't been made aware of.

Thats correct, my external users use my ddns and are stored locally on my server and not using a Emby Connect account.

I just checked my users, local and Emby Connect, and there are loads of devices listed.

How do you know who has what?

Yep clear any web browsers from devices list they shouldn't be in there. After that the users themselves on Emby Client for Roku can choose to name their device in preferences or you as admin can see what user had used a device last to determine who owns what and then from the point click on the device in Emby Web Client device list and give it  display name to easily identify user's devices.

3.0.5640.23779

This logging in issue now appears to be fixed for external users and web browsers are no longer being added in the device list again.

Oops got redirected to local address on a local machine, so spoke to soon. Still not working so same results as Version 3.0.5639.15983

This must be one of those threads that sits in a dark corner unseen by the big boys.

I hope you get it sorted soon.

For anyone to reproduce the only steps that are needed are as follows.

  1. Login in with your Emby admin account on web client
  2. Select Manage Server
  3. Select Users
  4. Pick one of your users to perform the test with
  5. Select access
  6. Uncheck enable access from all devices
  7. Uncheck any device you dont want them to be able to sign in on
  8. If you see any browsers in this device list they shouldnt be there so uncheck them
  9. Once you have specified the devices you want this user to be able to login on try to login as them via an external connection on the web client.

Side note, if you want to leave browsers in the device list checked thats fine, but as soon as a new browser version comes out this will be added as a new device and the user wouldnt be able to sign in.
