Long delay opening TV Collection

To add to my last post, I also had one season in that series that had 0 episodes when it eventually loaded.  Just for kicks, I backed back out to the EHS, went into the settings and unchecked Active Backgrounds, went back to this particular show.  It still delayed ~30 seconds, but now two different seasons had 0 episodes and the one that had 0 previously loaded correctly.  I'll try running Emby Theater on the same PC to see if it experiences any of the delays.  Not sure if that's a good test, but can't hurt :)

Emby Theater seems to work without a hitch.  Entered a dozen or so TV shows and it entered within a second or so, including playing the active backgrounds.  I may actually look more into EmbyT.  For some reason, I believed it couldn't bitstream, but just played Gravity at the Atmos track bitstreamed without issue to my AVR.  I've avoided it simply because of that misconception.  But back to the topic at hand, my network seems to function fine through EmbyT, just not through EmbyC.

OK, i haven't tried EmbyT but I'm already in the process of re-configuring my network.

I'll be back a little later with updates!

Navigating Emby Theater is still pretty snappy, no delays.  I'm having separate issues that seem to occur after playing a movie from ISO then back to MKV, but definitely not the latency I've been intermittently experiencing with Emby Classic.  If it was truly a network issue, I would think that it would impact Theater as well since it's accessing the same server over the same infrastructure.  Hope we can figure out Emby Classic!  Even with these occasional hiccups, still a great piece of software :)

solidus28, I have another test I'd like for you to try if you would.

Can you create a new user-id on the Emby-Server, then go into MB-Classic and log-in under that id.

Use the same Theme and then see if you still have issues.

Also, if you could tell me, on the user-id you log-in with, is it password protected?

Let me know how it goes, ok?

I just finished doing a test using a different user-id (i have 4 seperate ones for me and my kids).

I had NO issues using this other id.

Thanks.

solidus28, ignore the above request.

I kept testing and am now having the same issue with the other user-id.

Sorry bout that. I tested the user and it worked fine.

Then I went back and added a few options to the user and started getting the same issue.

Removed the options, still get the same issue.

This is really starting to tick me off!!!!

solidus28, I have a few questions if you wouldn't mind?

Is your media on External HD?

In your Library Setup are you using "Path Substitution"?

Is your Profile password protected?

Are you using "Legacy Browsing"?

Is your media on External HD?

Using a Highpoint 16 port Sata2 Raid card with 15 drives.  There is a RAID1 array of 3tb drives and a separate RAID1 array of 4tb drives.  These were created using the Highpoint card's bios and are shared from Windows 2012 Server. I know the Everyone group has at least Read access, but I can check if that's important.

In your Library Setup are you using "Path Substitution"?

Nothing filled out in the Path Substitution section on the server.

Is your Profile password protected?

No password on the profile the client uses.

Are you using "Legacy Browsing"?

Legacy Browsing is unchecked.

K, 2 more questions.

Have you ever checked Legacy Browsing?

Do you have nested TV Series folders, meaning:

example:

Star Trek Collection

 Star Trek

    seasons1, 2, etc.

 DS9

    seasons1, 2, etc.

Voyager

    seasons1, 2, etc.

If I've checked Legacy browsing, it's been a long time.  I honestly don't remember, but definitely not recently.  This is how my library is setup for TV:

In Emby Server, I have a media folder setup with a path like this:

\\servername\mediashare\TV

Within that directory, there is a folder for each tv show.  Within each tv show, there are separate directories for each season.  Within each season folder are the individual episode mkv files.  I do not have a "Collection" folder setup for related shows.  In your example, I would have a separate folder under TV for Star Trek, Deep Space 9, and Voyager, mixed in with the rest of my tv shows.

ex:

\\servername\mediashare\TV\Ray Donovan\Season 01

\\servername\mediashare\TV\The Shield\Season 01

\\servername\mediashare\TV\The Shield\Season 02

\\servername\mediashare\TV\Star Trek\Season 01

\\servername\mediashare\TV\Star Trek Deep Space 9\Season 01

\\servername\mediashare\TV\Star Trek Deep Space 9\Season 02

\\servername\mediashare\TV\Star Trek Voyager\Season 01

To go one step further, I did change my episode naming convention last year.  So anything in the last few months is named under the new convention, everything I had prior still has the old naming.  All seems to be recognized fine and metadata collected appropriately.

Original Naming Convention

episode # - episode title

01 - Coefficient of Drag

More recent naming convention

show name seasonxepisode number - episode title

Community  6x01 - Ladders

OK, thanks for the response.

I'm gonna keep testing things until I hopefully get it figured out.

I'll keep posting here with any updates.

I appreciate your help!

Well, did a complete reinstall of both Server and Classic.

No luck.

I am getting a crap load of different errors.

I opened a new thread for the other errors to see if I can get them fixed.

If I can get them fixed, I'll come back to this thread for the delay problems!

The delay you are seeing is all about server or network response.  The requests for children are simply timing out.

Be sure you disable all anti-malware on both ends (as a test) because sometimes that can mess with network traffic.

ebr, I did do as you suggest yesterday, with no changes.

I also removed everything from my network except the server and htpc.

I even wiped out my router settings and loaded up basic settings.

Had no firewalls or anything running, all shut down.

Same issues.

As I explained in my other post (images errors), I re-installed the Server and MBClassic after completely removing them.

I did this about 3 weeks ago or so and things seemed to be fine foe a bit but started having the Delay issues again.

This time I changed my folder structures to abide by the new recommended structure.

I had the Image Download errors, after a few server restarts they went away??

I am still testing the new installs to see if I run into any problems.

Thanks again for your help. I appreciate how quick you jump on these posts!

Solidus28 - Can you tell me if you are using MetaBrowser as your metadata manager or are you using EMBY?

Also, if you are using Emby, did you use MetaBrowser in the past?

I haven't tested this yet but I did find a formatting error in the movie.xml files.

Evidently a recent change in Emby has changed the formatting of the movie.xml.

I am submitting a request to Fatal (metabrowser) to look into this.

I don't know if this change makes a difference or not.

Thanks.

I do not use MetaBrowser, but I did at one time.  It's been a while now, since we Emby can handle it now.  But I definitely have shows & movies that were in my library when I was still using MetaBrowser.  Interesting find  :)

If it matters, I was using MyMovies before that.  I honestly don't remember, I guess MyMovies had it's own metadata manager.  It's been several years, but I occasionally run across the old MyMovies images and xmls in my library.

Solidus - Do you remember when you started noticing the delays.

It wouldn't have been around this past February would it?

I honestly don't recall.  I want to say it was happening in February, but don't recall when it started.  Wish I had something more concrete, but it's just a guess.  What happened in February?  :)

I'm actually not completely sure but I've found on the forum here a number of posts where people started having some odd issues in February.

I know that my problem started occurring in February and just got worse.

Maybe I'm just grasping for straws!!??

Is there any way to roll back to an old client and server version before February to test the theory?

Actually was going to post this same question to find out.
