dfuji 0 Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Am running a server with Plex but been looking for an alternative. Been following Emby Media Browser for a little while, so impressive what's being done. This morning woke up to the email with Server 3.0.5588 release which allows for enable/disable transcode settings per user. This is exactly what have been looking for to switch from Plex and get an EMBY licence. Gave it a spin. disabled transcoding for user xyz logged in as user xyz set the playback to really low resolution/bit rate pressed play in web browser player returned error Rather than return an error, if a message needs to be displayed could something like "The media is not available in the selected resolution, click continue to switch to the available resolution" The player would then switch to original format, and start playing. In my case, the media library is encoded in mp4 1.5mb vbr aac, to date it plays on any device on any connection 3g/dsl etc connection without transcoding. How to force that to play original without bothering the user? Cheers, DF

dfuji 0 Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 I actually want to cry! A response from the hoses mouth This doesn't happen over in Plexville. Anyway, have almost stopped crying for joy and signed up for the licence, hope it helps. Thanks for the answer/update. Have a great weekend.
Luke 38940 Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Welcome. This is just the first run of this new feature and it will no doubt improve over time. This kind of feedback will help us evolve it.
