ROKUs suddenly unable to connect after ug to 3.0.5588.1

MB server upgraded to 3.0.5588.1 today. Neither of the two rokus I have (roku 2 and roku 3) are able to connect.

Multiple restarts of the windows server machine with or without firewall, and restarts of roku boxes don't help.

Scanning from roku for server finds the server, but it is unable to connect (asks to check if the server is running even with firewall off). IP and port appear correct with my server machine's fixed ip and port 8096 as specified in the server admin console.

MB Theater clients for windows on remote machines work fine, just not roku.

Please advise. I have not tried re-installing the server.

Thanks, that was it. The old Roku Media Browser channel no longer works; adding the EMBY channel worked. I found I had to open an additional port, 8920 for for the new Roku client to navigate through the server machine's firewall.

Cheers!

I am having the same issue.  I clicked on Lukes link and the Roku website says that I have that version installed.  None of my remote Roku users are able to connect to the server.

There's no reason the emby roku app would have trouble connecting. Just because your users have the app installed doesn't mean they also don't have the old one and are attempting to use it. That would be my guess. Apart from that please provide more descriptive information as to the symptoms you're seeing, e.g. what do you see, what do you click on, etc.

Im going over to a remote users house to check on the issue in a little while.  Once I've had the opportunity to check into this further i will reply with more detailed symptoms if need be.

Thanks again

Please make sure you're using the Roku channel listed on our website and also here:

http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/8001-emby-for-roku-channel/

One you verify that if you're still having problems then please let us know.

I am having the same issues and I am a little confused about your solution.  Are you able to break it down a bit further for someone who is not very computer savvy?  When I click on the link provided I am taken to a screen with the following:  Public Channel; Private Beta Channel, etc.  What should I do once I get here?

If you are still using the app labeled Media Browser you need to delete it and add either the Beta channel or the Emby public channel.

I'm also having a similar issue. I removed the old Media Browser app and installed the Emby app. I followed the link in the above instructions and Roku tells me that Emby app is installed. When I click on the app I eventually get a screen that gives me three options; 1) My server name, 2) Add server 3) Sign out of Emby Connect. Picking option 1 gives me the choice of connecting to the server or deleting it. Neither of those work as I can't connect or delete it. Option 2 allows me to enter the info but it doesn't work and won't connect. Option 3 gives me a new pin number and the option to add the server manually. Both of those eventually lead back to the opening screen. Using Version 3.0.5597.1.

Sorry to hear that. we need to learn why it can't connect to your server. Please obtain a roku log using the zip installation. Full instructions are here:

Here's the log. The instructions need one more small addition for people like me. Under the "Telnet to Roku Client" section a note saying to check the logging tab is set to actually log the session. It's set to none by default.

I'm happy to report my Rokus are still able to connect (Roku 2 and Roku 3) using the new EMBY client.

I did have to open an additional port (8920) on the windows firewall running on the machine with the EBMY server that wasn't open before the new EMBY Roku client. Try turning off the windows firewall to see if it works. If it does then you need to open ports to allow the Roku to talk to the server. (windows 8.1 professional isn't very intuitive for doing this, I had to google it and then it was simple).

In other news the ServerWMC plugin for EMBY for live TV streaming doesn't play nice with the new Roku client. Live streaming that used to work now apparently crashes the client (I get kicked back to the Roku home screen) anytime I try to watch off-air streaming TV. I don't do this often so I'm not terribly bothered. It continues to play recorded TV from WMC just fine.

Also for some reason the AC3 passthrough audio codecs on HD content on my server are no longer used by Roku or my receiver. They function fine on non HD media (480p). I've played with handbrake to encode the audio differently but with no luck. These worked on the old Roku client with the same 5.1 Onkyo receiver.

I can try the putty log of the Roku if you're interested (I'm only mildly bothered, not enough to spend a lot of time fiddling).

Try the beta channel as it has some 5.1 fixes.

Can you grab the server log from this time period? (or just repeat the test). it looks like it found your server but was then unable to connect. thanks.

So the roku is just never reaching your server at all. Could be a firewall issue.

Note in the roku log:

Failed Response with Error: -7

Which translates to

CURLE_COULDNT_CONNECT (7)

Failed to connect() to host or proxy.

That's what is being reported. Also I tried turning off the Windows firewall but it didn't help.

Does your roku appear when viewing your network from your machine running the EMBY server? It should similar to above.

Just trying to see if the server can see it, but it cant see the server. If it is 2 way or just 1 way.

Does your router support UPnP? If so, is it just disabled? If not, you may need to manually open/forward port 8096 to point to the IP/pc-name of the server running emby.

Emby theater still works if it is running on the same PC as the server without UPnP/forwarding.
