JeremyFr79 228
Ok so when viewing live tv, and mainly on chromecast but other clients seem to do the same thing as well.....I've noticed a weird issue. I guess I can't necessarily call it an issue as what it effects I don't really care about but still thought it'd be interesting to dive into what causes this. What I have noticed is that while watching live tv the programs play just fine, smooth no hiccups, nothing. However as soon as the commercials come on they freeze and studder (video only) etc, once the program returns smooth playback again. Here's my guess as to what is causing this but figured I'd see if anyone knew for sure or could figure it out. My guess is that it has to do with framerate/pull down detection. i.e. commercials alot of times are shot at different frame rates/resolutions than the channel is broadcast at. The framerate would come into issue with pulldown detection. I'm assuming that the ffmpeg cannot adjust to the difference in framerate/pulldown which causes it to stutter. Anyone else?
