I hope im right here. I would test Emby on my Intel NUC Debain Server, its my smarthome Server and runs 24/7 so it would be great when emby runs there to.

Amd64 its the right version, its an Intel® Pentium® Processor N3700 (4 Core)

Hi @@Kodi_Newcomer

maybe you want to test openmediavault?

It also uses Debian as the basis os. With openmediavault it’s very easy to install Emby in a Docker container.

Hi, as you can see from the error message, the network is unreachable. Something must be blocking the connection.

Hoping Luke can throw some light on this. Ive just bought a Raspberry Pi 4 8GB. I'm running the latest version of Raspberry PI OS with a 64 bit kernel. uname -a confirms I am using 64 bit. I wanted to install the Arm64 Debian package emby-server-deb_4.4.3.0_arm64.deb but

Quote
  1. dpkg -i emby-server-deb_4.4.3.0_arm64.deb

Gives a message back telling me its not supported and I need the Armhf version. (Sorry I am not logged into the Pi right now so can't get the exact message)

I then tried

dkpg --add-architecture arm64

followed by

dpkg -i emby-server-deb_4.4.3.0_arm64.deb

It seems to be working with the following output but then failed as so:

(Reading database ... 97525 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack emby-server-deb_4.4.3.0_arm64.deb ...
Removed /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/emby-server.service.
Unpacking emby-server:arm64 (4.4.3.0) over (4.4.3.0) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of emby-server:arm64:
 emby-server:arm64 depends on zlib1g (>= 1:1.1.4).

dpkg: error processing package emby-server:arm64 (--install):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.28-10+rpi1) ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 emby-server:arm64

I assumed the zlib1g was too old so tried a sudo apt install zlib1g-dev but it tells me zlib1g-dev is already the newest version (1:1.2.11.dfsg-1).

So now I am stuck

Did you "sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade" before install Emby?

First, run an update to make sure that there aren’t newer versions of the required packages.

sudo apt update --fix-missing

Thank you for the suggestion Riggs,

Just to give the background. This was a brand new install. The SD card was imaged using the MacOS imager tool from the raspbian site. The first thing I did was then a sudo apt update and an sudo apt upgrade. Then I added arm64bit=1 to the config.txt and rebooted.

Hopefully it should be as up to date as possible.

Ive just tried your sudo apt update --fix-missing and I get the following output

Afraid not Luke. I just can’t understand why it doesn’t install the 64 bit and complains about that zip library being too old. The installed version in raspbian is newer

I think that you need to add the repository multimedia non-free

pi@EmbyServer:~ $ sudo apt list --upgradable

libraspberrypi-doc/testing 2+git20200520~143707+2fe4ca3-2 armhf [upgradable from: 1.20200601-1]

vlc-l10n/testing 3.0.11-0+deb10u1+rpt1+arm64 all [upgradable from: 3.0.11-0+deb10u1+rpt1]

Follow this guide EDIT: CHECK THE VERSION YOU NEED. There's for 32 and 64bits but, some works with 64bits, go to the link. They are needed for some software, your raspian version maybe need the multimedia or/and the backports

https://deb-multimedia.org/,

The basics, hope helps

In the code you can see vlc with problems, normally that means that you need that third party multimedia repos activated.

I had to do something similar for one program to run in a Debian 10 server this weekend, had to use that multimedia repos.

Debian is very closed to include third party repos that's why debian based systems are rock solid, but can be tight and need more research. Ubuntu is more easy, but Ubuntu is the devil

Thanks for all the help. I am afraid still no luck,

I was so hopeful. I followed the guide.

I edited /etc/apt/sources/list to add the following

  GNU nano 3.2                 /etc/apt/sources.list

deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org buster main non-free
# The below line is the original repo
deb http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian/ buster main contrib non-free rpi
# Uncomment line below then 'apt-get update' to enable 'apt-get source'
#deb-src http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian/ buster main contrib non-free$

Followed by a

sudo apt-get update -oAcquire::AllowInsecureRepositories=true
Hit:1 http://www.deb-multimedia.org buster InRelease
Hit:2 http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian buster InRelease

I did a

apt-get install deb-multimedia-keyring

Which worked fine

I then did a sudo apt-get update

and a sudo apt-get upgrade for good measure

Finally a sudo apt-get dist-upgrade for the ffmpeg packages

I still get the same result from

sudo dpkg -i emby-server-deb_4.4.3.0_arm64.deb
(Reading database ... 98160 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack emby-server-deb_4.4.3.0_arm64.deb ...

Once again I tried a

sudo apt update --fix-missing

Hit:3 http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian buster InRelease

So at least I know all the vlc stuff is up to date.

Finally I tried checking once more with a

sudo apt list --upgradable
Listing... Done

It all seems to come down to it not thinking zlib1g is up to date

I tried to force an overwrite with

sudo apt-get install -f -o Dpkg::Options::="--force-overwrite" zlib1g

zlib1g is already the newest version (1:1.2.11.dfsg-1).
You might want to run 'apt --fix-broken install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 emby-server:arm64 : Depends: zlib1g:arm64 (>= 1:1.1.4) but it is not installable
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt --fix-broken install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

Still not luck with the install. I am totally stuck

You have the error there

remove that repo causing the problem from /etc/apt/sources/list

'main/binary-arm64/Packages' as repository 'http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian buster InRelease' doesn't support architecture 'arm64'

The missing package is here:

https://packages.debian.org/buster/arm64/zlib1g/download

Your problem are some dependencies that seems are not in your system if you can access a desktop gui in your OS, you can use synaptic or

You can try this:

sudo gdebi package.deb

(change "package deb" for emby-server-deb_4.4.3.0_arm64.deb)

OR this

sudo apt-get -f install

That commands above will pull the dependencies you need, if you encounter some error look for the missing dependency and install it.

Just in case delete the .deb and re-download it again

What is your system? Choose the correct version

Debian Arm64 (aarch64)
  1. Download emby-server-deb_4.4.3.0_arm64.deb
  2. dpkg -i emby-server-deb_4.4.3.0_arm64.deb
  3. Open a web browser to http://localhost:8096
Debian Armv7 (armhf)
  1. Download emby-server-deb_4.4.3.0_armhf.deb
  2. dpkg -i emby-server-deb_4.4.3.0_armhf.deb
  3. Open a web browser to http://localhost:8096

Just an FYI for any Debian users.  I upgraded to Bullseye earlier in the week and was surprised to see that my HW Encoders/Decoders were back.  I haven't paid much attention to this since I have a Ryzen 1700 CPU in the server to take care of any encoding/decoding via software.  It could have been fixed a long time ago without my noticing it but it got broken somewhere along the way with using the Debian Nvidia packages rather than the direct download from Nvidia.   It's working now though.

what’s the status on Alder lake + Debian + quicksync?

Thinking of upgrading to alder lake with Debian but I know from very painful past experience that new Intel generations typically take up to 2 years for stable quicksync drivers to become available on Linux.

If anyone could chime in with your experience I would be extremely grateful.

If you're referring to hardware acceleration, then alder lake support has been added in the 4.8 beta channel.
