Hi, I'm hoping that someone here will be able to help me get MPC setup on my HTPC.

I have installed;

- Haali Splitter (23/06/2013)
- ffdshow (tryouts rev 4500_20131006_x64)
- MPC - 1.7.0.x64

I have a file that I'm trying to open that reports the following in MediaInfo:

I'm consulted the following http://codecguide.com/faq_mpc.htm and followed the advice for the ARM issue, but no change??

Would anyone be able to help me out here - I just don't understand the interoperation of ffdshow MPc / codecs etc. It's all so complicated and I've never found anything to explain - you either know it or you don't.

Thanks

Alex

Thanks very much for the link Cbers / Jack. I've been able to get MPC to play the files!

Slight difference though that instead of installing the filters manually, I ran the MPC installer as I may use MPC as my player (if I can ever get the remote commands to work).

Anyway, I'm unable to get WMC to be able to play the file I described in the original post (although MPC plays it happily). I've installed the ffdShow x64 and MPC x64 installers and configured ffdShow as per your guide. However, the tweaker dialogs looks a bit different, I that I don't have any ffdShow filters for 32-bit? Should I install ffdshow 32 bit as well as x64?

Here's a snap shot of the codec dialog - you'll notice also that I have nothing on 64 bit for mpg?

So I you don't mind, my questions:

  • Why have I got no 32-bit filters and only Microsoft options?
  • Does WMC run in 32-bir mode?
  • Which filters should I get installed for playing mpeg files?

Thanks for your help - much appreciated.

Strange.

Did you just install ffdshow ?

I only have 32bit OS on my HTPCs.

If you have 64bit OS, you'll need 32bit & 64bit filters installing.

I found shark007 codecs played all my video formats fine via WMC. You might want to look at that

Thanks for the advice, but Shark Codecs (without going into it) broke my machine and led me to believe that a more meticulous approach to codecs was preferable.

Thanks again for the response CBers. I've installed ffdShow for 32 bit and the Tweaker software now allows me to pick ffdShow for the 32-bit filter section. I do however have a couple more questions though that I'd be grateful for some help with:

  • I can't media centre to playback mkv natively - MPC works fine though. In fact it looks like all except wtv isn't going through MC.
  • I set the Media Foundation setting like yours, but didn't get any audio out of wtv files until I re-enable the foundation to process it. Any ideas why nothing else is picking up the audio for output?
  • If you have a look at the screen shot I put up earlier I've not got any decoders (other than an MS one) for mpeg. Can you advise on how I can get mpeg support other than through MS codecs (I thought that the ffdshow wold cover that off).

Cheers.  :)
