So I have a problem.

I start the app, sign in and see my server on the list. When I tap it I get the following message: server unreachable.

This only happens when I am outside my home nettwork, and only on Android.

For me this was fixed by..when outside network..manually specifying public ip..after that it worked..

I tried that, no luck.

Using kodi (xbmc) with mediabrowser plugin it works fine, so the problem is the media browser app for Android.

I downloaded and installed them yesterday. Android v 2.2.02, Server v 3.0.5518.2. I have tried on different Android units, and the results are the same. Only works using wifi at home, not outside home nettwork.

Also, the them songs on tv shows are missing.

I'm having the same problem, unable to connect outside of home network with android app.

PC connects fine with 3G and wifi (not home network) And the Android client works fine when on wlan.

I've tried to input settings manually with both address and IP. Ports are forwarded properly, plex is able to connect, same is Owncloud.

So any idea's what could be wrong?

Great app btw, i just bought the lifetime membership! :)

Edit:

Server is the latest version: 3.0.5518.7

Android client just downloaded from Play.

Running on virtualbox Ubuntu server 14 something. Mono 3.10.0.

Http is blocked, Https is the only one that's mapped :)

The way I am reading this is that the router is configured to only point to the HTTPS port on MBS? If so, the Android client hasn't been updated yet to actually work with HTTPS, so if you want to use the Android client currently, you will need to map the HTTP port to the outside.

HTTPS support is going to be added soon though! :)

You are absolutely correct, i disabled regular http, and only enabled https.

So that's why! :)

How much more unsafe would this be, then running with ssl? (https)

Btw, you guys are awesome! I just love how Plex increased their lifetime cost, that was how i found this program! ;) And this is truly worth every dollar!

I personally don't see any major disadvantage to not using https. All passwords are sent hashed so if you are worried about someone sniffing your password, it shouldn't be an issue.

Hello everyone.  Just purchased the lifetime membership too.  Sorry to hijack this post, but I've been searching and searching on why https didn't work on my android and other smart devices, only to find that its not supported.  Whew! Glad to know that now. I'm using my MBS on Fedora 21 and blocked my port 8096, just using my signed https port 8920. I couldn't get why it stopped working, looking over my log files and remembered that I disabled 8096 externally...duh.   Glad this forum is here.  I'm a 23 year Senior Unix Admin and loving this app so far.  Just can't wait to get it to work https over Android (I don't like using http).  And like others, I don't see myself paying $150 for Plex any time soon.

BTW, until https is supported, I was wondering on how I can get the app to auto log out if the connection is dropped?  It seems it cached my login for some reason and I was able to log in via another browser from another location and it auto signed me in.  I really don't like anyone being able to log in to see my media.

Hi there, and welcome. We are working hard to get https supported in all of the apps. We're hoping to have an update for android soon to address this.

Run across this problem today. Can't get the Android app to connect over WAN either directly or via emby connect. The log doesn't have anything that useful (just timeouts).

I am able to connect via HTTPS in the browser over the WAN.

Same here. No remote connection to my server. I've tried reinstalling the server, using the direct IP. Both 8096 and 8920 ports are forwarded. I've disabled firewalls. No access via web client, either. I haven't had this issue before. Android app version 2.3.80, server version 3.0.5783.0. I get Connection Failure, on my phone. When I use Connect, it shows my server, but won't connect. Do you want me to post my server log on here?

Just uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Its the latest version on Play. No change. I can't connect with the web client on my phone, either. It shows my server, but won't connect.

In that case, I think you should check out our wiki on connectivity and go through the troubleshooting steps there:

I'm not having any luck with that, Luke. As far as I can tell, it should be working. One question, though. Looking at the remote access address, it's a very long and alphanumeric. I don't remember it being this way, before. Shouldn't it be an IP address?

Ok, so you're either running beta which has experimental ipv6 support. if you don't want to participate in helping with that then you can either reinstall the stable release or you can disable your ipv6 network adapter. search through the testing are of the forum someone mentioned how to do this.

I just uninstalled the beta, rebooted, installed the stable version, and for the remote address, I'm still getting the long alphanumeric string. And still won't connect to the server.

I am having the same issue with connecting to emby server through the android app. Server version is 3.0.5783.0 and android app is the latest from the store although I am not sure where to check the version number in the app. I am having no trouble connecting through the chrome browser on the android phone.

Edit: Found it. Server logs the android client as version 2.5.63.
