coolsaber57 3
Hi All, I'm having an issue with MBC not playing any files occasionally. I can view the TV/Movies pages just fine, see episode details, etc, but when I hit Play, the WMC circle just spins for about 30 seconds and gives up. As a workaround, I can kill WMC and restart it, and it will work just fine, but it's hurting the Wife Approval Factor when it happens. My setup includes: Hardware: HTPC connected to a switch, which is connected to my router. The actual content resides on my QNAP NAS, which is directly connected to my router. Software: Win 7 with WMC, customized menus with Media Center Studio Media Browser Classic Media Browser Server (installed on HTPC) MBC Chocolate theme Is it some kind of caching issue? Any ideas on how to investigate the underlying issue? Thanks in advance!
Logos302 86
I'm having the same issue I think. I'll upload a MBC log file the next time it happens. I assumed it was something with my system so never bother reporting it.
ebr 14904
Yes, please post a log when it happens but this is probably a codec problem.
coolsaber57 3
Yes, please post a log when it happens but this is probably a codec problem. Can you elaborate on how that could be a possibility? Most of the time, the videos play fine and when they don't, a restart of WMC fixes them. I would think that if it were a codec problem that the videos that don't play would consistently not play until the codec issue was fixed.
ebr 14904
Reloading WMC may re-load the codecs or some other necessary video component of WMC thus fixing whatever the hang up is. Post an MBC log next time it happens with details of exactly what happened and I'll see if it is a problem with MBC or the server but my bet is on either codecs, WMC or the interaction between them. Logos302 86
Here are the logs that I have. It should be either the first one or the middle one, but I don't sure as I had three that where all about the time. ebr 14904
You didn't say what you were trying to play or exactly what happened so I'm not completely sure what I'm looking for but maybe playing "Homemade Ambulance Challenge"? If so, I see it being sent off to WMC for playback, WMC reporting it is playing and then about 15 seconds later WMC reporting that it stopped. Then the same thing only it only is reported as playing for about 5 seconds. So, everything on our end looks fine. If the item didn't play it is something with WMC or the codecs. Logos302 86
You know I'm not 100% sure next time it happens I write it down as well. But if everything looks good in the logs so its probably is a codec/ WMC problem. But I don't remember this happening until the new play interface came in. But that could have been just a coincident or my faulty memory, or even something else that changed that I don't remember.
CashMoney 94
I've seen this problem before, a few months ago. In my case, it wasn't exclusively an MBC issue but a WMC issue related to sleep. If my HTPC went to sleep while WMC/MBC was running, I couldn't play anything in WMC/MBC after resuming until WMC/MBC was restarted. Like the op, I got nothing but a spinning circle for about 30 seconds and then nothing. I've not seen the issue lately because I use powertriggers to shut down and restart wmc upon sleep and resume. If this sounds like your issue, you can give this a try. Edited February 11, 2015 by CashMoney
