True Detective - good actors, reasonably good though basic story, though tediously slow, it predictably all happens in the last 5 minutes of a 10 hour show

I've been enjoying this show as well - the last 10 minutes of episode four were fantastic, non-stop action.

But, what the hell is Woody Harrelson doing with his mouth throughout the entire show? - really annoying.

Totally agree. It depends on what he's in. I found The Office mostly terrible apart from a few moments here and there but Derek was pretty good.

I couldn't get through more than one episode of Derek - but Extras was excellent.

And I found his Golden Globes monologues to be really funny.

Walter's house in Breaking bad, actual house here in ABQ from google maps, ive driven by but don't have a pic. In case you feel like googling it yourself its 3828 Piermont Dr, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87112.

Anyone watching 12 monkeys? I haven't got around to watching it yet but I'm curious if its decent or not.

+1 for Life too, that show was fantastic.

That is awesome!

12 monkeys is actually not that bad. I have enjoyed the last three episodes after hearing about it on this thread. Great idea, sir!

I was reading some thread on another forum about The Wonder Years and learnt something new.

Winnie Cooper and Becky Slater are sisters in real life! Who knew?

Ah, the Wonder Years.  What a great show that was.  And we all had a crush on Winnie...

Only other place I've ever seen Danica was in the later seasons of The West Wing.

Mmm, yes indeed. She was in 1 maybe 2 episodes of How I Met Your Mother too.

She had one or two guest spots on Big Bang Theory.

What a shame that the recently released complete DVD set was 1. on DVD (not blu-ray) and 2. the video quality is apparently atrocious.

Watched the first 2 episodes of 12 Monkeys... so far so good. Sticking to the basics of the (movie) plot so far. lead actors performance a little wooden at the moment, but hopefully  things will improve as it progresses and the actors start to feel comfortable in the roles and explore the characters.

Just finished season 1 of Black Sails too... Highly recommend it.  Season 2 as just started, so I can jump right back in where it ended.

My other real world responsibilities have got me so far behind on my television watching right now. I just finally got to start catching up on this, the final season of Justified. So far it looks like they really aren't pulling any punches. The other shows I am catching up on right now are Forever and Elementary. Forever, despite its issues has been infinitely watchable thanks to Ioan Gruffudd and Judd Hirsch. If it doesn't find a way to succeed, it will be because of the writers missing too many opportunities for the show to grow. The actors and the premise have kept the show engaging. Elementary started off this season really rocky, but over the last 2-4 episodes has really started to right the ship, and not just because they finished up with the Kitty Winters story arc. It remains, IMHO, one of the better scripted shows on regular network television.

Not had a chance to start watching this season of Justified yet... Nor have I found time to watch the final season of Sons of Anarchy yet. With all the shows I currently watch that are airing each week... I can't find enough time to keep up with everything. So I'm saving up shows to watch when they take breaks, or over the summer period when not much airs at all.

I'm behind on at least 12 shows, and there's another 7 or 8 that I've not even started watching yet... New stuff keeps appearing that I enjoy and start watching, so something I enjoy a little less gets pushed aside and replaced... but I have every intention of watching it still.

I have been enjoying Backstrom, it's getting better each week, and season 2 of Sirens has recently started, and that can be watched in small 20-23 min bites. Enjoy it more than the original UK version.

Yikes! I am going to mention "Arrow".

It is "soapy" at time but season one was just great! He actually kills bad guys! Like a poor mans Batman.

Then I watched the Flash....

The problem is that when you start a series from the beginning it is hard not to want to know what happens next... And The Flash is now in my library... Dammit!

I really enjoyed watch True Detective.

By far one of the best since Sapranos and The Wire from HBO.

I just finished getting caught up with Arrow the other day. It can be kind of cheesy, but I still really enjoyed it. The first season was probably my favorite so far, I liked the dark tone to it. It was refreshing for a CW superhero show.

I also started watching The Flash (Actually, I started it before Arrow, and then started watching Arrow after the crossover episodes), while The Flash is a lot more light-hearted, and much cheesier than Arrow, I still like it. But I'm a fan of most Marvel/DC shows/movies...

Yes BB becomes very addictive after a while but you absolutely have to go watch True Detective right now! ;)

I was really impressed with True Detective. It was definitely a refreshing tone for television (or film, for that matter) a true original as far as I'm concerned.

I'm really interested to see what they do with the next season, since they're supposed to be changing to a different story line in every season (a la American Horror Story)

I really don't understand the negative feelings toward Arrow after season 1.  So you can't enjoy a TV show unless there's killing in it?  That's a sad thought to know people need as much violence as can be had in entertainment to actually enjoy it.  What is surprising is that Arrow actually did kill people in the first season 1.  In the comics, WHICH IS WHAT THE SHOW IS BASED ON, he doesn't kill people.  There are a couple of instances that he did in some Green Arrow novels.  I guess I just enjoy the show as I'm a fan of comic book heroes and while Arrow is just a play on Green Arrow, I know comic books can be cheesy so TV adaptations have to be more action packed to be relevant today.  And I think it's a very good thing that a character in a show can realize that killing people makes him no better than they are, and it actually takes more strength, fortitude and courage to not kill someone even if you think they deserve it.

The Flash - again being based on a comic book it is at times a bit campy and cheesy.  But that's the point.  It's SUPPOSED to be.  The world of comics are based on ridiculous premises.  That's part of the fun of it.  I really like they are showing so many villains so early in the show.

I love just about any show with a sci-fi premise to it.  So I really like 12 Monkeys, The 100, Marvel's Agents of Shield, Extant... there's so many good shows out right now.

I was so excited about Ascension when I first heard about it.  But after the first episode, I realize that the writers have no desire or skill to create an interesting, kind of sci-fi themed show, so instead they make 50% of every part about nothing but prostitution and people cheating on each other and the other half is showing how all the sex and cheating on each is affecting each character.  It's just beyond stupid.

A sort of comedy/sci-fi show from I I think the U.K., is Eve.  It's about a female android and a family that saved her from being exploited.  Yes it's campy and goofy in a little bit of Dr. Who way.  But it's kind of a fun family show to watch with the kids.  I don't think it will be on for several seasons nor be on the top of any 'great TV' show list, but it's a fun show to fill in while you're waiting on your next favorite TV episode.

I LOVE Grimm almost more than my kids.  Very cool show.

MTV's Teen Wolf is pretty awesome too.  It got boring for awhile and almost too silly, but thankfully it turned around.

Haven is another favorite of mine.  I almost gave up on it because it was taking just way too long to find out who Audrey Parker really is.  I think everyone was getting tired of the slow pace of knowing more details about what's really going on.  Thankfully the writers finally kicked it in high gear and saved the show.  Looking forward to the new season.

I really wanted to like The Librarians on TNT.  It's got some funny moments and I'll give it a few more watches if season 2 comes out.  But I don't hold out much hope for it.

I have grown to like Scorpion.  The first 3 or so episodes I thought the series wouldn't even make a full season it was so bad.  But they started making the characters more interesting and getting in some occasional comedy in that got much better as it went along.  Looking forward to season 2.

World's Funniest Fails is hilarious.  At first you may think it's a copy of America's Funniest Home Videos, and in some ways it is, but it really focuses on truly FAILED attempts at doing something.  They have 3 people each show to give commentary on each video.  They pinpoint things you may miss at first.  They replay the videos and then run them in slow motion as they give their take on the video.  It's pretty funny.

Some of my favorite 'drama' shows that I'm sure everyone here has watched or heard of:  The Mentalist, Stalker, The Blacklist (sooo awesome), Criminal Minds, NCIS and NCIS Los Angeles.

I don't think NCIS New Orleans will last as long.  Their tech guy is absolutely ridiculous.  The coroner is soooo boring with no personality. Lucas Black (LaSalle) is the best actor on the show.  I really like Scott Bakula (long time Quantum Leap fan).  But he is so boring and not suited for this role.  He's not tough.  He's not smart (the character in the show I mean).  He doesn't know how to hold a gun.  Watch scenes of him running and crouching with a gun and he looks like some kid playing laser tag, just really goofy looking, almost like he's trying to look stupid doing it.  There's one scene where they are wearing headgear and he looked so silly and ridiculous and out of place that it was hard to watch.  It's like the producers are trying to make him goofy and stupid looking in everything he does.

Person of Interest made a huge turn around thankfully.  The last season was it's best.  I hope they write Shaw back in after she has her baby (in real life).  They are leaving it open as to either way.

Now You See It is a very, VERY funny show from the BBC showing some of the best and some of the REALLY bad magic tricks.  The commentator really does a great job with her funny comments.

I'm looking forward to The Odyssey on NBC in April, and also Heroes Reborn.

Also The Returned coming in March will be something I'll check out as well.

I've got about 90 other shows I keep track of, some of them other families watch that others don't.  But I thought I'd share my personal highlights that I watch here :)

My current favorite is "State of Affairs" starring Katherine Heigl as the CIA appointed POTUS briefing specialist. Maybe not the most sophisticated show in the history of TV, but I love the tense political environment.

I understand Katherine starred in "Grey's Anatomy" which some took as a reason NOT to watch "State of Affairs" but I think she's great. And she looks like my wife. [emoji1]

Saw the first episode of Better Call Saul today, it was rather good. This prequel to Breaking Bad has a lot of the atmosphere and colour of BB, and I'm looking forward to watching e2 tomorrow

Those of you who have been watching "The Bridge" ought to check out the original Swedish/Danish "Bron/Broen" - at least the first season is on Netflix.

Are they not both the same just original title/English title?  Anyway I have watched the one with the characters above, very good.

I've also seen The Tunnel which is the UK/French version, also good but I knew what was going to happen  ;)

Nope, the US version takes place on the US/Mexican border. I understand they first intended to use the US and Canada but they discovered they needed bigger cultural differences [emoji1]

Although maybe Québec and Maine would have worked [emoji6]
