xnappo 1608 Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 We have a lot of reduced art available. I think someone could use im85288's concept and make a Pi-specific skin using small art and a little less eye candy.
Luke 40096 Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 You should still do the above though suggestion though. You really want params like quality to be managed by the add-on and not every individual image request.
steve1977 67 Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Sounds really great. Unfortunately, I will only be back to my RPi next week, but will test thereafter. Concept-wise, it indeed sounds convincing and I would assume/hope that this should speed up things. Two initial thoughts: 1) Why would you reduce the art quality if the RPi caches it anyways? 2) Many RPi users do not leave the RPi on all the time as they will connect the RPi via USB to the TV, which will have the RPi only being turned on when the TV is on. I didn't understand though why this is relevant?
Luke 40096 Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 I already said you won't notice. Let go of the voice inside telling you that you will
xnappo 1608 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 My biggest concern with the image size is the server load. We already have users running out of memory due to CoverArt processing, and this is going to add more load.
Luke 40096 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 It won't. But even still, that's not within the client's domain to worry about. Plus we're going to switch from gdi to a new library and that will be a moot point anyway.
im85288 1493 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Well I just updated the addon to use 90% as default. Let's see if that helps. We can then drop it to 80% for PI users if they confirm this change has a benefit.
Luke 40096 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 it very often is being processed anyway I would only make the change for Pi where the size reduction will help.
Luke 40096 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 yes you're right unless cover art is involved then there could be processing regardless of your params. the web client actually uses the 80 and 90 values I mentioned above and nobody has noticed Again - not suggesting for everyone as it's not necessary for the htpc, but for Pi, smaller images = more images cached client side. at 90% you generally see something like a 33% size reduction, pretty significant for Pi. At 80 it's more like 50-60%.
Luke 40096 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 yea certainly. just for kicks, can you add format=webp and just tell me if it works or not? since kodi is based on ffmpeg and ffmpeg supports webp, i think it would. that would be another big improvement. note that if it works this is not the way you'd actually do it, this is just to find out or not.
bishop 12 Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 There are threads that have been derailed before and then there's this thread.
bishop 12 Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 Sorry, I guess that I wasn't following too well. The last few days have been hectic but after reading again I was wrong. Apologies. Netflix view doesn't function without a mouse hooked up. On the stick it's not possible to plug a mouse in. After deleting the skin and reinstalling I was able to switch back to Metro. The images cache and load faster and work like the normal library does but the content still loads. PleXBMC preloads everything and that's the only feature I'm missing right now.
xnappo 1608 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Really weird - I don't have a mouse connected to my Pi and it works fine.
im85288 1493 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Yeah no mouse for me either, only ever use a remote. The focus on first load isn't great but your Next Up and In Progress Items should load almost instantly.
bishop 12 Posted January 2, 2015 Author Posted January 2, 2015 Hm, I'll have to try it out again on my FTV. I tried it with a friend's fire stick tonight and had the same outcome. Fanart displays and changes but no combination of button presses or restarting the FTV/Kodi will get the UI to appear. It looks like this If I use a mouse it loads perfectly and is pretty nice looking. I don't know what I could post to troubleshoot the issue. Another thing that I'm curious about is subtitles with MB3. Most of my media comes with subtitles integrated into the MKV or as a separate SRT file. If remote clients use the Kodi subtitles addons to select new ones or ones that I don't have already, are those saved on my server or on their device? I'm weary of using the MB3 subtitles function because I do not want to unintentionally replace all of my subtitles with ones that have syncing issues.
superstarscrub 1 Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I'm using it on a firetv and it also does not work unless I use a mouse. It also has random issues where the background goes crazy if you don't have any content. 1

Hi Guys, as I do not have FireTV I'm going to have to guess what's going on here..can you describe exactly what is happening? Does it only need the initial usage of a mouse to get the first focus and then you can use the remote? Maybe if you can post a video (or a FireTV!! ) or something I'll be able to try and visualise/diagnose it better. Thanks.
im85288 1493 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 For those using the Netflix view can you try with version 3.0.99 It should set the initial focus to the menu rather than showing nothing... 1
bishop 12 Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 Issue resolved! It looks like it loads the menu... but I can't disable the unneeded pieces of the menu! No big deal on that, though. I like Netflix view a lot, my users might be a little confused by it, though. Maybe the menu could be incorporated as a row of icons like the Netflix view uses instead of overlayed on top. Wrong thread, though. Also, a wrong thread bug report: If you go all the way to the left or right (search to settings) when you go back to the right or the left the selection will be off by one. Here's what I mean: There I went to settings to change something.. When I went back to the left the wrong header was selected and the main window is small/out of focus. This behavior isn't present in the stock 1080XF skin. 1

This behavior isn't present in the stock 1080XF skin. I'll have a look into that, I suspect it's happening due to some of the sections that are disabled. A quick fix when that happens is to navigate to the power button and press down twice (this resets the menu)
w84no1 27 Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 That we have a skin that works well on the Pi. im85288's skin has a new 'Netflix' mode, that looks a lot like and acts a lot more like the Roku app. All the collections are loaded and maintained on the home screen. I would like @@steve1977 or some other 'real' Pi user to confirm they agree... @@w84no1 you still around? xnappo I am still around. Been away from the forums for a while. Is there anything that needs testing on the PI? I currently have 2 in production and 1 for testing.

Still seems too painful to me - but the latest version of the AddOn is 2x faster, and @@im85288 has a 'Netflix' view in his skin we were playing with. If you could try those and let us know how far off we are from workable it would be appreciated. I think the answer is still a LONG way to go.
