mkv's audio output problem MB classic

I am having a specific problem when I play MKV files in mb classic using the default player, that is the mkv will only output audio in stereo pcm format. I then use as a work round MPC-HC as an external player and the mkv will play in 5.1.

I am sure there must be an easier solution. Has anyone had a similar problem or have a better solution?

The default player is WMP for that to handle mkv's etc you'll need to install a codec pack - I use Shark007 for my setup .... being HTPC to amp via S/PDiF Hope it helps

Yes, you'll need some codecs - I've used Shark007 in the past.

But, using MPC-HC is actually a good idea - for a few reasons, the main one being that you can configure it to change refresh rates based on the content being played.
