When I go to play a song when I am on 4G/5G, Emby crashes either straight away or after a little while of playing.  Works fine on Wifi.  This only started occurring after i upgraded my emby server on Synology nas to 4.9.1.80.  Might be a quiescence.  Can I roll back or what can I do to fix this?

Update: The issue seems to be isolated to certain music tracks.  One album just won't play without crashing. Doesn't really make sense but I'm not making this up.

I have tried the following:

Stopping and starting Emby server for Synology NAS

Restarting the NAS

Restarting the Android phone

Re-installing the Emby android app

Again, while using on wi-fi/DLNA server, every works fine.

Hi, is there a difference between the tracks?

Not that I'm aware of.  No difference between bitrate or file type, most of my tracks are FLAC 16bit.   Just seems to crash on some songs.  I was able to replicate it on my Wifes android device as well.  She is also complaining that it crashes a lot now. Is there a way I can roll my server back to 4.8?  it was working much better.

thanks, I'll add to the list of things that are being worked on.  I'm a little disappointed as I paid for lifetime Emby and probably should have checked out Plex first..

Hi, wouldn't you rather have a personal media server and not one that puts all of your information into the cloud for the world to access?

I apologize for your issue but we are working on it and should have something soon. Thanks.

Hey man, ultimately, I just want a media server that works.  There are too many things that just don't seem to on Emby.  I have given it a good go and waited for things to be fixed.  Looking back at my last posts, I think a good 6 months ago, and checked again today. Nothing has changed. There are some great things about Emby but unfortunately there are some key things, like a smooth remote experience, just don't seem to work well.

Hi, please try again with 3.5.13+ and this issue should be resolved. Thanks.

Ok, I don't have 3.5.13 available on the play store.  Will this also solve the Wifi to mobile data issue? Where music just stops when moving out of WiFi?

in addition to Kanejo79 input - I have noticed exact the same issue of  instant app crash  but with mp3 files and  when Mobile data quality is set to everything else than auto quality.
server version 4.9.1.80  ;  android app  version 3.5.12

previous releases of server and android app worked like charm, no single crash while trans-coding (mp3 320 >> aac 192)  / I got limited mobile data  transfer up to 10gigs a month.
my cellphone  - poco f5 pro --> android 14 UKQ1.230804.001

thanks in advance !

Thanks.

Just had the same issue on .12 and the behavior is the same on .13.

I am on android 15, snmy xperia 5v.

It looks like the last 3 or 4 albums I added are not streaming properly.

Notes:

They are the same format as my other library items.

I can download the files through the emby app on android and they play fine on the app once downloaded so I know they aren't corrupt.

I tried changing the streaming quality settings and it made no difference, just an instant crash.

Older music uploads work fine on the android app.

These songs stream fine in network on my desktop browser at home.

Just manually updated my app to 3.5.13 after experiencing the issue on 3.5.12 and its still happening.

I'm on Android 12 with a galaxy note 10+ if thats any help.

Seems to just be flac files that cause the crash from quick testing

One of my albums in flac format is streaming fine at 932kbps, another at 1mbps crashes immediately, another at 3mbps crashes immediately, another at 985kbps plays fine.

I had streaming quality set to auto. changing it to 512kbps made no difference.

On local wifi, some crash, some play. On cellular data, most crash immediately except the ones mentioned above.
