Video stuttering and asynchron to audio after fast-forwarding - movies with DTS audio

I use emby on a 3rd gen Amazon Cube. The Cube can passthrough DTS audio. The Cube is connected to a Denon AVR that supports DTS.

Movies with AC3 5.1 audio work fine.

When I play movies with DTS or DTS HD 5.1, Emby recognizes the passthrough option and the DTS stream arrives at the Denon AVR. When I fast-forward during playback, the picture and sound become out of sync. The movie then pauses approximately every 5 seconds (stutters), while the audio continues to play. The audio and image become increasingly out of sync. Playback without interruption or fast-forwarding works fine.

If the problem occurs after fast-forwarding and I go to “Fix playback error” in Emby, Emby starts transcoding the audi and everything works fine.

The same problem occurs in the Emby app for FireTV if I don't disable DTS passthrough in the settings. If passthrough of DTS is disabled in the settings, everything runs smoothly.

Emby for Andoid Version: 3.4.74
Emby Server in Windows 11 Version 4.8.11.0

A server log is attached. Unfortunately, I cannot attach an app log. I don't see any way to share this from the Cube. If it is possible and someone can help, that would be great.

A solution for this problem would be great, or alternatively, the option to disable dts passthrough in the Android app settings.

Many thanks in advance
Harry

Thanks for your suggestion.

However in my cases only 5.1 DTS and 5.1 DTS-HD streams are affected. I don't have any issues with EAC3 or AC3 audio streams and no issues with 2.0 streams. When watching movies with DTS audio the Denon AVR is on "Auto" mode and shows "dts". Therefore it should recognize the right audio stream.

When I force the cube to only use PCM 2.0 I do not have any issues either. The emby app does not passthrough dts in this case and the denon receives a 2.0 stream.

Currently I am on vacation. So I did not try over the last week and cannot until next week.

Before I started I still had the issue.

Hi @Luke

I tested it. It is a little bit weird. I tested it with 5 movies. 3 worked out well without an issue. This was new. One was still stuttering and was afterwards asynchron. One was stuttering but audio and video kept synchron.

Did you change anything?

Thanks in advance

Hi, no, but I'm glad to hear that.
