juergenthefish 0 Posted June 30 Posted June 30 I have a media library with subfolders containing photos and videos. Many of these do appear when trying look at them either from the server or theater instance, but many of them do not appear, resp. appear as empty folders. It's kind of a miracle to me, because all of them show up in the Synologgy Photos app without any problem at all.
visproduction 283 Posted June 30 Posted June 30 (edited) Use this page to find which browser can support which image / video type. https://caniuse.com/ Emby licensed version can transcode, videos which cannot be viewed by a browser or TV / Mobile App. I am not sure what other limitations there are for images. You may find that the image type you want to view is not available for either the browser or TV app, that your other software image viewer can view. This is quite common issue with videos. I thought that images didn't run into this, but perhpas you have some unusual image types. Just because a 3rd party viewer can see content, does not automatically mean a web browser / TV mobile app can see the same content. You are dealing with different software. For example: this advanced image type is hardly viewable by any software: https://caniuse.com/jpegxl Another quick test page is https://wiesmann.codiferes.net/share/bitmaps/ You see immediately what can and cannot be viewed. Luke 40106 Posted June 30 Posted June 30 HI there, can you please provide a specific example? How to Report a Problem Thanks !
juergenthefish 0 Posted June 30 Author Posted June 30 Standard browser (chrome), standard jpg files - see attachements ...
Happy2Play 9446 Posted June 30 Posted June 30 And the server log? But can only guess a permissions issue.
juergenthefish 0 Posted June 30 Author Posted June 30 No idea how to check the server log and besides why does Synology Photos then have no issue?
visproduction 283 Posted June 30 Posted June 30 (edited) Jurgen, One software sees your images and another does not. That is sort of like going into a used car lot and finding a car that drives and one that doesn't and you tell the salesman, "That one should drive because the other one drives." This page supposidly can repair images. Maybe that is your problem. https://fabconvert.com/file-repair/jpg Edited June 30 by visproduction
juergenthefish 0 Posted July 1 Author Posted July 1 Why should suddenly 20% of my images all of a sudden need a repair - all taken with same camera, all viewable with other softwasre, not just Synology Photos - I rather believe Emby needs a repair ...
visproduction 283 Posted July 1 Posted July 1 Juergen, Good point. Try the site and rule out that some of your images have any issues. Also your screen shot of the sample .jpg files looks fine, all the files have the same user and rights ownership. But Linux can create files with different groups or user ownership and different rights. Do an director list and check if some of your images files have different owners, groups or rights which could cause Emby not to be able to reach them. Maybe upload a sample image that fails with Emby. Hope that helps.

The How to that Luke posted has directions as all anyone can do is guess without logs to look for errors. I will still guess permissions.

What do these screenshots tell us? You're showing us a picture of two folders in Emby, right? Should something else be there, or are you asking why there is a folder icon?
juergenthefish 0 Posted July 2 Author Posted July 2 Sorry I thought they would be self-explaining. One shows an empty folder in Emby (altghough the right folder does contain visible entries), the other shows a non-malfunction Synology Photos (with the same folder AdbK... not empty as in Emby) and that list shows that ALL the JPGs in that folder are the same and are world-readable). Even on a Samba mapped folder I can view them all with all those Windows Photo apps. I'm getting more and more convinced that Emby is just not professional enough to handle whatever it considers a problem there - is there at least an error log to? Users should have such problems and do not have with other applications of that type.

This community is here to help you. Here are some guidelines on what information you should supply when reporting issues. Make sure to check out our Knowledge Base for more useful information. General Emby Issues Please create a topic in the community. Describe the problem in your own words, including what you're trying to accomplish, and where you're getting stuck. Please mention some specific examples. In your description, be very specific about the steps you took and what happened with the system. Describe it like you are talking to a blind person - because you are. We cannot see what you did or what happened so be as specific as possible. If you saw error messages, please tell us what they were. If the problem is difficult to explain, please include screenshots that demonstrate the issue. Please attach the server log from the time frame the activity occurred. See the section below titled Emby Server Logs. Please supply the full and complete log file in txt format. Please don't zip or compress, and avoid attempting to extract relevant sections. Everything is relevant to us. If a server transcoding log (ffmpeg log) was also generated during playback (in the server logs folder), please attach that as well. If you are using the Roku or Android TV specific app, please also follow the instructions below to send a log from the app. Emby Server Logs Logs can be accessed directly within the server's web interface by navigating to Advanced -> Logs.
