In the past I have found a file in the root folder with the same name as a folder which caused the issue, Also extended characters can cause it to.

@@Luke Despite my very incipient experience with NAS in general I managed in minutes to install and run the package in my DS214se (armada370) following your instructions.

some feedback:

- I needed to add SYSTEM permission to my created folder that contains my media in order to explore it and add media - I guess the release package will automatically create an emby user so this will not be needed;

- Using emby media browser with its default player it works pretty well, I'm using a test library with only 5 or 6 movies and one did not play at all I really can't tell why;

- Even though I love how neat the interface and menus work while video is being played in emby media browser I just require MPC-HC (external player) for MadVR and some other fine adjustments regarding audio/video codecs. When I'm running a local server I just map my media folder at the NAS to Z: and Y: and MPC-HC works fine, but now that the server is running remotely MPC-HC doesn't recognize the path - since it's not mapped - I need a workaround (any ideas?)

This is the error:

Unrecognised switch(es) found in command line string:

C:\Program Files (x86)\MPC-HC\mpc-hc.exe /volume1/HD1/******** /play /close /fullscreen

Usage: mpc-hc.exe "pathname" [switches]

- Finally the web player did not work. I can browse but as soon as I hit play it won't anymore.

Mono 3.10.0-4 is the latest one from synocommunity

Mono 3.12.1-0062 is the one I see a lot of people are having trouble with in the sicbread/nbz forums.

Ahh 3.12 is from the official Synology web page for your device. It does not seem to work. 3.10 is needed from the Synocommunity ATM.....

I'd downgrade to the 3.10 version and try again.

NOTE: ZOMG you found 3.12 do you have a link to it or the repo it came from?

@@Gernash

I downgraded Mono to 3.10.0-4 and was able to Install Ember. But when I go into the Package Manager and Try to start it, it just doesn't. The Protocol in the Package manager is empty.

Could someone please tell me where to find the logfiles so I can post them here?

@Schreini

Logs --> /{mount point}/@appstore/emby/var/logs

have you followed this guide? http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/22921-synology-setup/

Guild has only been tested with X86/x64 and cederview

If you are following the guide only install the cytec spk for evansport Cpu http://cytec.us/syno/test-spk/emby/3.0.5597.1/ then try and boot it (it seems there is only that installer for your NAS atm)

DS412Play evensport architecture

Installation

  1. Install Mono from Package center --> Community Tab
  2. Install Mediainfo from Package center --> Community Tab
  3. Install ImageMagick from Package center --> Community Tab
  4. Download and Install ffmpeg from here: http://cytec.us/syno/test-spk/ffmpeg/ffmpeg_evansport-5.1_2.6-3.spk
  5. Download and Install emby from here: http://cytec.us/syno/test-spk/emby/3.0.5597.1/emby_evansport-5.1_3.0.5597.1-3.spk

Once you have done that see if it runs.If so please tell us so @@Luke can update the installer pinned document.

Note: there a couple of more steps to do but you want to see it it just starts 1st.

What version do I use for DS1812+?

Try the x86 version

DS1812+ Intel Atom D2700 Dualcore (2C/4T) 2.13GHz x86 Processor 64-bit@DDR3, 1GB of RAM

Thanks! It says I need ffmpeg but I don't see x86 version ffmpeg.

When will emby support for DS1812+?

Plex is way too buggy (Buggy to the point it cant be used) I'm hoping emby will do the job.

As of now there is no ffmpg spk for my nas and I cant install emby spk until ffmpg is installed so I'm stuck.

Hey guys, I have followed Luke's guide and installed packages as required (ffmepg 88f6281 pkg for DS413j correct?), Emby starts and scans fine, I can navigate and manage the server and apps profiles etc, however, when I select anything to play 720p or 1080p mkv nothing happens, just the spinning circle. I have tried to use external player, when I do this on my android it tries to use MX player, but nothing happens, on my PC it tries Vlc player, then goes to "External Player Feedback" "I'm Done" radio button.

logs as below...is there a transcoding problem, did ffmpeg work or should I reinstall?

Thanks for all the hard work done to get this far, you guys have done wonders. ;)

Hi,

I installed emby on my synology ds214play. Seems to work fine, i can access the setup on port 8096 and enter the dashboard.

However, i don't seem to be able to load the content in my library. I've added the correct path (being 'video', the synology root folder, since i did not see underlying folders), but no scanning or such.

Am i missing something?

It's probably a permission issue ... that was the problem for me ... you have to either use the Synology File Station and add the Everyone Group with read\write access to the properties of the content folder ( Movies or TV or Music .. ) or pass credentials another way .. I changed the permissions on my folders with the Everyone Group and it fixed my issue ... not secure I know .. but it's at home and not exposed externally ...

Hope it helps

Hello, I haven't received yet my Syno DS215j, but I prepare all the stuff to have a good NAS.

So I came here, read all the post, but I can't find an answer.

My Question :

The DS215j have a armada375 proc.

I found http://cytec.us/syno/test-spk/emby/3.0.5597.1/emby_armada375-5.1_3.0.5597.1-3.spk for emby (not the last one, but it's the only one with the good proc. Maybe the upgrade will work after the installation ?)

But I can't find a good version for ffmpeg. There is only one for armada370 and armadaxp. Where can I find one for my future NAS ? Will the one for armada370 will work on a armada375 ? I don't think...

I found this : http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=64609&start=75 (not sur if I can link another forum... But it's not on mediaserver only on synology..)

But no sources for the ds215j (or the ds115 who have the same proc..)

Anyone have an Idea ? I really want an emby on my NAS....

Thank you for your answer.

P.S. sorry if my english is not perfect :S I'm a poor french guy ;)

The forum post is the 1st place people go when then click the Synology link be nice if the 1st post was the install instructions with edit and updated.....

Pre-installation

Add http://packages.synocommunity.com/ and http://cytec.us/spk/ to Package center -->Package Source (make sure Yes, I want to see beta version! is ticked in Beta Tab and Any Publisher in General)

Check the what CPU/architecture you have in your synology https://github.com/SynoCommunity/spksrc/wiki/Architecture-per-Synology-mode

Installation

  1. Install Mono from Package center --> Community Tab
  2. Install Mediainfo from Package center --> Community Tab
  3. Install ImageMagick from Package center --> Community Tab
  4. Download and Install ffmpeg from here: http://cytec.us/syno/test-spk/ffmpeg/
  5. Download and Install emby from here: http://cytec.us/syno/test-spk/emby/

Updating

1. Go to https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/tree/master/Server and download MediaBrowser.Mono.zip then extract into a folder

2. Download and install winSCP http://winscp.net/eng/download.php login as root to synology

3. Make sure the Emby service is stopped

4. Copy the contents of the MediaBrowser.Mono folder into /volume1/@appstore/emby/share/emby (or wherever it has been installed, the contents of your MediaBrowser.Mono.zip should look like the contents of the folder you are copying into)

5. Start Emby

And that is it.

NOTE: Be careful, having root access to your nas can cause loss of data or damage to your file system if improperly used.

Has anyone found where to post glitches or bugs for the dev of this project?

guys have had my emby server running well for the most part on the synology 415+ unit. Ive since gone and updated the server using the info above and copying the mediabrowser.mono folder, and now the emby server is crashing constantly.

if i start it up, i can stream movies from it kodi etc,  but if i try and log into the server and then for example try and edit my library, or go into content manager, it crashes and the service stops.

So just swapping over the files from the new mediabrowser.mono folder seems to have broken some components in emby on 415+. anyone else have similar issues?

Yes, thank you! I thought my folder was already shared, but it seemed that under localgroups/users i did not check the box!

I recently had to rebuild my synology ds1512+ so I thought it would be a good time to try moving my emby server to it. I was able to get emby installed and running. It's deff not as fast as my pc was which is expected. It takes a bit for the clients to download all the images but I think after the initial download things speed up. One thing that is rally keeping me from using emby on this is transcoding, I tried to play something via the android tv client last night and it was being transcoded and the nas just couldn't keep up, the cpu jumped to over 95%. I've already upgraded my ram to 3gb so not sure if there is much else I can do. Does anyone anyone have any tips on improving the transcoding performance. I realize this is a low power machine but I would love to use it for emby. I also realize that more and more clients are trying to not transcode but if a single transcode process maxed out the cpu I don't think I can put this into production.

I tried it long back on my 1512+ and it seems no change, slow image loading in browser and poor transcoding performance keeps me using plex on Synology instead while emby performs perfectly on a low-specs windows pc

Anyone trying to put the emby cache on a flashdrive in the back of the syno? Would that help? Thoughts...ideas...

I also wonder if it's worth using the synology ssd cache. I have a spare slot and ssd that I might be able to use. I was planning on using the slot to expand my volume but it could be worth a shot. It us supposed to help with iops but I'm not sure how well it will help with transcoding since that is cpu intensive.

Hi - can you tell me the exact steps you followed?  I have a DS214play as well and I have followed all the instructions, including editing the INFO file for the Imagemagick version.  Each time I go to upload the file, it keeps coming back and telling me "Invalid File Format".  What did you do to get around this issue?
