CraigR4 3 Posted May 8 Posted May 8 After using Plex for a while, I am looking to install Emby on my QNAP Nas, and seem to have fallen at the first hurdle. I installed 4.8.11.0 (x86 version), installation works fine. but when I open the app, it refuses to connect. After a lot of digging, i managed to get WInSCP to connect and seek my log files, but when i look in '/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/EmbyServer/programdata' there are no files or folders.
Luke 40017 Posted May 8 Posted May 8 Hi, did you do the first step mentioned here? https://emby.media/qnap-server.html
CraigR4 3 Posted May 8 Author Posted May 8 yes, i downloaded the Intel/AMD version, as appropriate for the NAS, and the package installed without an issue. I have the icon (with the little warning triangle)
Luke 40017 Posted May 8 Posted May 8 Did you see this? Quote Before installing Emby on QNAP, you must have "Allow installation and execution of applications without a digital signature" selected and applied on the QNAP server at this location: App Center / Settings [gear wheel] / General. (This will produce a warning.) You must leave this setting on in order to avoid having Emby Server app shut down every day or so by the QNAP system (which would then require a manual restart of the Emby Server app).
CraigR4 3 Posted May 8 Author Posted May 8 yes, - i daresay it wouldn't have installed if it wasn't checked
CraigR4 3 Posted May 13 Author Posted May 13 i uninstalled and then reinstalled version 4.8.11.0. the app is there, but when i try to open it i get refused to connect. Just for completeness, i also ensured port forwarding was set up for 8920

CraigR4 3 Posted May 14 Author Posted May 14 I haven't set anything up on the emby server - it wont load. The port number is the one used by the app by default. I changed it to 8096 in the url, but it makes no difference. I'll just give up and stick with plex. Thanks anyway
Neminem 875 Posted May 14 Posted May 14 If you use port 8096 then the url should be http://10.0.0.70:8096

Thanks anyway @CraigR4but don't you want a personal media server and not one that puts all of your information into the cloud and sells it to the highest bidder?
CraigR4 3 Posted May 15 Author Posted May 15 i want a media server that works. if i can get emby to work, then great, however I have followed the instructions, installed it, tried both ports, and it refuses to connect. i am a little confused about how (or why) to set up https on a local network - i understand it for remote access, but for local access I'd be grateful if someone could explain

Have you checked that the actual address in the address bar is http://10.0.0.70:8096, not https://10.0.0.70:8096?
CraigR4 3 Posted May 15 Author Posted May 15 Thanks, yes I have tried that. I setup my other QNAP NAS, which I dont use for movies, and installing Emby on that worked just fine. There is obviously some setting on my original NAS which is causing me problems.
Solution CraigR4 3 Posted May 15 Author Solution Posted May 15 well, I'm not sure why, but I uninstalled the server app and re-installed, and on this 3rd attempt, installation seemed to hang at 45% for ages, but when i refreshed the screen, the app was installed, and now it is working 1
