Subtitles no longer playing on Android universial app

I played a little bit of this show (on my Chromecast HD) with subs on. No subs showed on screen.  I was able to downgrade the Emby Android app on my phone and it works again (just to test). Something is up with the latest Android app. I couldn't side load an older version onto my Chrome to test it yet. The older one from apk mirror doesn't install correctly.

Here you go. I re-downloaded the latest Emby Android app version and played an episode with an SRT sub. Same result, no subs are shown on screen.

Here's the srt that I've been using for logs. Others don't work either.

Another test point. So far every video with embedded subs play fine. I'm only having issues with external files, no matter the format.
