Hi all,

Recently a new feature has been added to both MB3 server and the XBMB3C addon:

You can now add virtual strm files to your MediaBrowser library

If you have ever used XBMC/Kodi natively before you know what this is all about, if you have no idea, keep reading....

Many add-ons for Kodi provide to possibility to "add items to the library".

In the add-on settings from the video-addon you can provide a path to your library.

If you're browsing the addon and see an item you like, you can choose in the context menu "add to library", the add-on will then generate a folder in your librarypath for that particluar movie or tvshow and in that folder there will be a file with the strm extension. In fact this is some sort of placeholder file which will tell xbmc/kodi to launch the addon when that particular movie/show is played.

With this method the files/movies/shows from 3th party addons would just show up in your main movies library so you have a all-in-one view.

We had some complaints about users that want to replace their native Kodi libraries with MediaBrowser that this functionality was missing so we both extended the MediaBrowser server and the XBMB3C addon to support this too!

How does this work ?

1. This new feature is available in the latest stable (release) version of MB3 server, make sure you use at least the latest stable release.

2. The feature is available in the latest BETA version of the XBMB3C addon, please install at least version 0.9.718 of the addon.

3. Open up the settings for your favourite 3th party video-addon, like NetflixBMC or any other.

4. If the addon supports the feature, you will notice a setting for the "library path"

5. You can either adjust that path and point it to your main movie library OR remember the path.

6. The easiest way is to modify the path to point it to your main mediafolders (you use with MediaBrowser)

7. Offcourse you can also use a seperate path, but than you have to add this path also to your MediaBrowser library locations.

8. Now open up that video add-on, open up the contextmenu and choose "add to library"

That's all.... The item will now be scanned by the MB3 server and depending on your serverspeed and scan interval in will be available in your main movie collection!

Please try out this great new feature and report us how it works for you.

If it's working okay this will be pushes to the stable version of the addon off course!

Please note:

1. The strm files are placeholders for other addons, meaning that XBMB3C just "launches" the file in the other addon, support for resume etc. is handled (or not) by the addon itself.

2. As the item is launched within the other addon (that will be seamless), there's no way for XBMB3C to know if the item is watched or not so you have to mark the item watched yourself manually. Based on your feedback we can add an option to mark strm files watched as soon as you enter them.

3. Strm files can also be used to provide a path to an external stream or file, this is also supported.

4. If you use the strm files for XBMC addons, those items will show up in other MB3 clients too but those clients will not be able to play the item (as it's a xbmc addon)
