Does kodi nextgen inaddon mode support direct path play?

You need native mode, not addon mode if you want to play native files. -> Trigger a plugin factory reset to change the mode.

But I don't recommend native mode as it more tricky to configure and only needed for edge cases.

My use case here is I have a couple of different servers and I'd like emby to play directly from that server, rather than that server -> emby server -> kodi device. Will addon do that with http?

Different servers? How does that correlate with smb-shares/native mode?

Whatever you try to achieve here, I think you going in the wrong direction. Manually manipulation of paths will most likely break the server sync.

Multi servers are supported by the plugin without any manipulations.

Oh I know it currently works, but when I play a file stored on say Server 2, it has to go through Server 1 (Emby) then to Kodi rather than Server 2 straight to Kodi

Well, as mentioned native mode is what you need to do some magic. As I still cannot follow with your server setup, feel free to run experiments.

-> An Emby server cannot "go" to another Emby server.

It works, but not with the ip, only using the hostname for some reason. I was coming here to report that I've ran into that issue on 10.1.2.

I have both the hostname and ip paths accessible within kodi and I can manually go open the file on both, but if I use an emby dynamic library to open the file, it only works if the path substitution is set to the hostname, not the ip.

Interesting, if you want a review, I need a Kodi debug log when playback is triggered via IP. Send debug log only via PM, do not post them in public when the server is exposed to the internet.

Seems it's not quite that simple since when I tried to switch my ip ones to the hostname, they were still broken, but the ones that were the hostname from the start always worked.

I'll try to do some VM tests and see if I can reproduce it reliably.
