Enk3lt 1 Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Hi, I would like to know if anyone would be willing to help me set up SSL on my emby server. I am really a beginner at this, so I need someone who can "hold my hand" from start to finish. I run my emby server from a synology. That would be a great help

Tandhruil 24 Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Hi ! You can take a look at this tutorial https://emby.media/support/articles/Secure-Your-Server.html
Enk3lt 1 Posted April 9 Author Posted April 9 Hi Tandhruil, Now it's probably just me who's an idiot. But I've tried to create a user https://www.dynu.com/ and now I'm going to create https://www.sslforfree.com/ But I really don't understand what I'm doing. Could you help me?
Tandhruil 24 Posted April 9 Posted April 9 I guess you are an individual and wan't to share you're NAS from your home. First you've got to know if your internet provider deliver you a static or a dynamic IP address. Then you'll need to associate your internet acces to a domain name (DNS) if you have a static address you can use a standard dns provider, if you have a dynamic address you need a dynamic dns provider like https://www.noip.com/ Usually you can find usefull information on the FAQ of your provider. After you get a domain name for your access, you can associate this name with a SSL certificate. You will have finally to declare this certificate in your NAS.
Carlo 4546 Posted April 10 Posted April 10 (edited) Hi, Have you setup external/remote access already and have this working? Carlo Edited April 10 by Carlo

Carlo 4546 Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Have you registered a domain name yet? If not, that would be the next step.
Enk3lt 1 Posted April 11 Author Posted April 11 I have done that, but when I try to domain name, it fails and this is where I get stuck.

Carlo 4546 Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Isn't mywire.org a domain used for DDNS? What you want, to make life far easier, is an actual domain that you register and will be able to fully control. Having an actual domain name allows you to fully control it's DNS records. This would allow adjusting CNAME entries to satisfy proof of domain control/verification as being checked by the SSL provider. Carlo
Enk3lt 1 Posted April 14 Author Posted April 14 Does that mean it makes more sense to pay for a domain?

Carlo I don't Understand, how can you get a Domain Name other than DDNS if you don't have a static IP address ? I have a DDNS and a letsencrypt certificate and it works well
Enk3lt 1 Posted April 15 Author Posted April 15 I think it's probably all about me not really knowing what I'm doing
Tandhruil 24 Posted April 15 Posted April 15 OK I think I understand, I had the same problem of CNAME with my ddns.net domain. It was a long time ago and I'm not shure remembering everything... You must use a TXT record certification. Your domain provider should deliverate it to your certificate provider. 1

Essentially you do the same thing as you would a DDNS provider and update the A or C record whenever your public IP changes. Having a real domain name, has a lot of advantages over a typical DDNS service.
