KylJoy 3 Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Hi, The music and video background themes work perfectly fine with the Emby Theater app on my Windows machine connecting to my newly built Emby server in an LxC on ProxMox, but the web client on the same PC in Edge just gets an error about no streams available when trying to play the theme music or videos. Same thing happens from any system with browser client to that server. Is this a known issue with Emby server on Linux? I had the same issue when using a full I Ubuntu server install before trying the LxC approach.
Luke 40123 Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
KylJoy 3 Posted March 12 Author Posted March 12 (edited) I have a windows-based server that is not experiencing any issues. But when I am browsing movies on my newly-built Linux-based Emby server there is an error thrown instead of the MP3 being played or the theme video playing. The error shown is: I've had the error in Edge, Firefox, and on the app on my Samsung TV. There seems to be no issue with the Emby Theater app on the same machine I'm using the browsers or in the Android app on my Samsung phone. Here are the latest logs that might be useful: ffmpeg-transcode-53adaeb6-a1bd-4ab9-b438-961be4c3158a_1.txtembyserver.txt Edited March 12 by KylJoy
KylJoy 3 Posted March 12 Author Posted March 12 This is the third time I have built a Linux system in the last week (tried, anyway) and this issue has always occurred. I'd lean toward permissions but then how do the Emby Theater app or Android app work OK?
Luke 40123 Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Hi, has the file gone missing? System.IO.FileNotFoundException: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: smb://192.168.0.115/raid5-01/Movies/Alita Battle Angel/backdrops/theme.mp4
KylJoy 3 Posted March 12 Author Posted March 12 I can play main movie fine. The file is there. At least, it is visible and playable from my Windows PC: Also, It is there from the Linux console of my TrueNAS system: This has to be something simple I'm borking.
KylJoy 3 Posted March 12 Author Posted March 12 (edited) Also, it plays from Emby Theater: That's an image from Emby Theater playing the background video A-OK. Background theme music works in Emby Theater, too. Not in a browser, though. Edited March 12 by KylJoy
KylJoy 3 Posted March 12 Author Posted March 12 Another bit of info... I can play the background theme video in my browser by using the following link: file://192.168.0.115/raid5-01/Movies/Alita%20Battle%20Angel/backdrops/theme.mp4
KylJoy 3 Posted March 12 Author Posted March 12 Also, it seems that none of the "themes" plugins actually download anything. I can remove the theme.mp3 or a theme video from a movie folder on the file share and the plugin will not re-download it, even though the plugin shows none downloaded. Helpful? I dunno. LOL

LOL Hi, I would post this question in the topic for the plugin to ensure that the developer sees it. Thanks.

OK so then the question becomes is it reachable on the linux server from the smb location. That brings into question a number of things for you to look at, such as the network sharing, credentials, etc.
KylJoy 3 Posted March 12 Author Posted March 12 Oh... so the Emby Theater client goes directly to the file share and does not pull the video from the Emby server? Is this also true from the Emby app on my phone?
KylJoy 3 Posted March 12 Author Posted March 12 Here is a log embyserver (3).txtafter the background theme movie played in the Emby Theater app.

Luke 40123 Posted March 13 Posted March 13 Anyway there's two things going on here. I believe the file not found error is resolved in the 4.9 beta channel if you need immediate relief. But you can also just wait for app updates because even when a background theme fails to play we shouldn't be putting up an error message, so we'll get that out to all apps asap, and that will be in the web app for 4.8.12.
Solution KylJoy 3 Posted March 14 Author Solution Posted March 14 Well, this WAS a permissions issue. I fixed it and all is now well. Thanks for your assistance. 1
KylJoy 3 Posted March 19 Author Posted March 19 A little more detail... I had setup Emby in a LxC container on ProxMox from a script but I'd made the container "protected". I had to back it up and restore it as unprotected and away it went! 1
