calirat 0 Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Hi, wasn't sure where to put this exactly since it covers multiple platforms. I've been doing a lot of configuring and testing lately to try and get the best streaming capability on a remote network away from my Synology NAS. When connecting locally (not remotely,) my results are decent on all platforms, with Emby Theatre and Kodi working the best, along with Android for phones. The web client fails to load certain files, or streams with stuttering. The Android TV client is pretty good. Where things start to get really iffy is streaming remotely. Every client I've tried will only be able to stream smaller 1080p files, except Emby Theatre (perhaps Kodi too, didn't test it) and Android for phone. It seems bizarre to me that my phone can perfectly stream large 1080p files on wi-fi, while a TV hooked up to an amazon fire cube, with ethernet plugged in, can't even open it. What gives? I can provide more details and test other options if necessary.
Luke 39854 Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
calirat 0 Posted March 9 Author Posted March 9 Wondering if someone can help me figure out a solution for streaming remotely on certain platforms. On a certain remote network, I can stream my library perfectly on the desktop Emby Theatre client, and the Android version Emby for mobile. However, streaming with Emby Amazon Fire TV app or Emby Android TV app causes video files to not open at all, or constantly buffer. Considering the TV has a direct ethernet connection, and my phone is just on wi-fi, I don't think it should be streaming better unless something is wrong with the app itself, or the tv's hardware. Hoping there's a way to get the TV apps to work better, or else I might just have to settle for casting emby theatre on desktop to the TV. Thanks!
calirat 0 Posted March 10 Author Posted March 10 Thanks, one detail I got wrong in the previous post was it's actually on Emby for Samsung Smart TV, not Emby for Android TV.

calirat 0 Posted March 10 Author Posted March 10 Sorry, I failed at reading. Here's the logs: ffmpeg-transcode-fb84636b-7fa0-4fa5-a0d6-e283d6e6f34a_1.txtembyserver-63876988800.txt In the worst cases, the video file would try to play for about 20 seconds before giving me this error: https://i.imgur.com/A8NzLrn.png Other times, it just wouldn't buffer well enough to be watchable. Some of these files seemed to play if I switched off the image subtitles, however, others of similar filesize would play just fine with them on, and I've found some files that don't play well regardless of what subtitles, so image subtitles can't be the only issue.
calirat 0 Posted March 12 Author Posted March 12 bumping this in hopes of a real response, i've continued to have these problems on samsung smart tv and amazon fire tv.
Luke 39854 Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Hi. Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares? Thanks.
calirat 0 Posted March 28 Author Posted March 28 When I did more testing, it seemed to have significantly better results on the older version of the app, strangely enough, although some files still had trouble.

calirat 0 Posted March 29 Author Posted March 29 (edited) The log said Emby for Samsung 1.9.0 The better performing app for Amazon said AndroidTv 2.1.26a Edited March 29 by calirat

One is the Samsung app, the other is Android, so it's not a question of older or newer versions. Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares? Thanks.
