It would be nice to include a "poster" category for images.

I have noticed that images for movies are taller than their width (like a movie poster), whereas the images displayed for TV episodes are wider than tall.  Images in PLAYLISTS are square.  Where each is normally displayed this seems appropriate.  I select/edit images for the "venue" in which they are normally displayed.

However, when I wanted to include a TV show episode as a single item in one of my movie COLLECTIONS, by default it displays the PRIMARY image, which in this case is wide.  It is still discernible, but not ideal for my purposes (see screenshot, which shows a poster vs a wide image in Collections).

My suggestion would be to add an additional category for images, under Edit Images that would specifically address the images dimensions: e.g. Poster, Wide & Square.  That way, Emby could automatically display the appropriately dimensioned image within the venue the item is currently participating in.

So far, I have only found this to be an issue when using a TV episode as a single item in a Collection, so you would only need to add a Poster image category. It would be optional, as the other categories are, if a user did not require one.  If there are not many users that experience a similar issue, then it may not be worth the effort to institute, but I am throwing the suggestion out there for consideration.

Hi, the primary image for a movie is the poster. It just happens to be named Primary image rather than poster.

Wide is already there, called Thumb.

However, TV shows best display as a wide image when looking at their episodes.  If a tall, poster image is selected as the primary image, then it doesn't display nicely in the TV show listing.  If a wide image is selected for the primary image, then it displays nicely as a TV show episode, but looks like my screenshot (lower image) when displayed in a collection.  My suggestion was to offer the best of both by adding an option to have both sized images available (if the user chooses to) so that Emby can select the proper sized image depending on the "venue".

But where would such a poster image come from for a single episode?

It sounds more like what you really want is to use the Series primary image in those locations.

I often replace images manually when I am unhappy with the "stock" image.  The ability to do so is one of the features I appreciate about Emby.  I generally do a Google image search to find an image I am happier with.  Sometimes I edit the image, changing size or dimentions to suit my needs.

I am not sure what you mean by a "series primary image".

If by this you mean having more than one primary image, each of different dimensions that would best fit whatever "venue" the item appeared in, then YES.  That is what I was asking for.

But you can see how very, very few people would take the time to do such a thing on individual episodes though?

The poster from the Series the episode belongs to.

Perhaps you are right.  Including a single episode as part of a collection (in this case, my "Christmas Collection") would probably not be utilized by enough users to make it worth all the programming effort it would require to implement.  It was just something that occurred to me as I was organizing my Collections.  This is just a small detail, and it is certainly not a "fatal flaw".   I suppose most users would not even notice, much less have the motivation to search for & edit new images.  I just happen to be particularly compulsive (both a blessing & a curse).

One of the advantages of Emby is that it works pretty well "right out of the box", with many automatic features that simplify the library management process.  For most users I imagine this is more than sufficient.  However, this is a public forum & I may get lucky, and find that there are enough others out there who might appreciate this to justify the effort (but I won't hold my breath until then).
