Hi Guys,

Emby Server: Windows Laptop

Emby Client: Android Mobile

TV: Chromecast Ultra

Connection: Wired & Wireless

-

I'm not even going to pretend to know the network setup.

It's not mine and it's beyond my understanding.

The server laptop is hardwired to a router.

I connect via the mobile client through WiFi and cast to a Chromecast device on TV.

It has been working perfectly since I moved in here, 6 ish months.

Last night the hardwired laptop started having connectivity issues.

Mobile device could not access server, found laptop had no connectivity.

This has been resolved.

As of now I can connect to the server and access my library on my mobile device.

I can playback on my mobile device, as well as the local machine.

However casting from the mobile device to TV shows the Emby splash screen on the TV, and thats it.

No media backdrops display upon selecting a movie.

And attempting to play a movie while casting is unsuccessful.

TV screen just shows a spinning circle.

And no media controls appear on the mobile device.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Logs attached.

Hey Luke,

I'll check when I get home from work, pretty sure LAN server was http.

You'll need to know this to some extent. Is there anything unusual or complicated about your LAN setup?

The behavior you're seeing indicates that although your mobile device can reach your Chromecast receiver, your Chromecast receiver cannot reach your Emby Server.

If it were trying to use https and chromecast was rejecting the https certificate, then that could be one possible reason. But of course this is unlikely on the local network as it should be connecting via LAN addresses.

Yeah after some messing around last night I came to the same conclusion.

My primary mobile can't connect to the Emby server.

It also gets zero connectivity in some apps on the wifi whilst other apps function normally.

My secondary mobile gets connectivity in all apps including Emby and reaches the server and can play movies on the device.

But whilst the Emby splash screen does cast to TV from this mobile I get nothing beyond that.

I think my Chromecasts are in the same boat as my primary mobile in that somehow they don't have full connectivity to the network.

But yeah the setup is well beyond my level of understanding I'll have to get my housemate to investigate.

Do you have two routers by any chance? Please let us know what you find.

He's got a hell of a setup, routers and access points all over the place.

I came home yesterday and while he couldn't explain why he said he'd been monitoring the network and the devices that were having connectivity issues just started connecting properly again at 4pm.

My primary mobile wouldn't connect to one of my Emby servers, for some reason it was looking for the wrong server address. Deleted it and re-added it and it connected ok.

Half of my movie thumbnails were broken and the movies wouldn't play. Refreshed library to no avail. Checked laptop, drive appeared connected, with no contents, but showed storage correctly.

Disconnected rebooted reconnected happy days.

No idea what all that was about.
