Airbender 122 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Hello Everyone, I know this is a big ask, but I wanted to put it out there. I genuinely believe this feature would be extremely popular. If you see the merit in it, I'm confident you'll agree with me. Currently, Emby is a server and client-based system that heavily relies on web development, offering new tools and features that are impressive. However, some of us still cherish the classic Media Center with MB 1 and MB2, which is no longer available since Microsoft discontinued Windows Media Center. One of the coolest aspects of MB2 was the ability to create custom skins for clients. The only system that still allows for this is Kodi. But hey, we're not going back, right? My feature request is to have an option to add skins to the Emby client, even if it's limited to a few devices such as Xbox X or Windows PC for now. The idea is to have one or two skins with different presentations, for example, an Emby Client Skin in Netflix style or an Emby Client Skin in Crunchyroll style. This way, users can apply the skin to any client. Now we can make it bit more complicated by adding plugin option in server side and push it to selected devices only or keep it simple and import the skin plugin via direct downloads and install via the client or as exe like we use to do back in the days in MB times Since this is add-ons users always will start with default skin and few selected users can go and get the skin and add it to the client and view their media in a new way form and look if that make sense I truly believe Netflix style or Crunchyroll style skin add-on will be very popular and desired by users. I hope developers of Emby see merit in this idea and thanks in advance
visproduction 238 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 (edited) AB, Did you know about the custom styles available already for Emby Web? Look in this forum section: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/forum/144-web-app-css/ The amount of time to make different color themes and styles is often underestimated. Don't forget that position changes, colors, font sizes all should work for every computer monitor size, every language that has longer names, every text on backgrounds that disappear if the colors are too close, every long text that might overlap an area below, especially on a smaller monitor or window, every window width change, every button alignment for all screen sizes. Not to mention, if you want to make the new look work without breaking for Mobile phones and tablets. It's a lot of work. For example: typical templates for online sites that use Wordpress, often sell for more than $50 each, because the designer has fixed all the issues. Usually, these purchased templates are locked in place with very little options for the user to change. A Graphic User designer is a professional position, where just changing the styles on a page is major part of what the graphic designer does, all day and they get quite a nice salary in the US for this work. Airbender 122 Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 (edited) Yeah what you suggesting is not quite close to what i am requesting Custom CSS can do much but i believe the whole skin need to be built for it if they look and feel will be like Netflix and not everyone is good with coding and computer languages and so i would say think about it if someone made the skin or layout for it more users will sign up with emby and more people will join because it will be a feature no one offers. you will make money that grantee and who ever make it, it will be able to sale the skin as well if they choose too. Unless someone makes a soild how to about custom styles to make emby client looks and feel like Netflix playing around with no knowledge of programing will be wasted time from users side Perhaps a little demo might help, here is Kodi skin for Netflix just to elaborate in my point Thanks in advance Edited January 6 by Airbender 1
