Good day gents.

I've been updating emby on centos via yum for years. It is my understanding the opensuse repo is legacy now.

What is the proper way to update emby going forward? I am on 3.4.1.0 trying to update to 3.5.

Just install the .rpm over top?: https://emby.media/linux-server.html

Cheers,

Loving Emby in the past. I just installed a new OS (Fedora28 on a new/old desktop) and am having trouble installing Emby. (gotta admit the instructions are only 3 lines and even then, they're for Ubuntu https://emby.media/linux-server.html).anyways, I go to install with "$ sudo dpkg -i emby-server-deb_3.5.0.0_amd64.deb" and I get missing dependency I can't resolve. Any ideas? (or is there a more thorough how-to around? I really like Emby and hate the idea of resorting to plex)

$ sudo dpkg -i emby-server-deb_3.5.0.0_amd64.deb
(Reading database ... 5043 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack emby-server-deb_3.5.0.0_amd64.deb ...
Unpacking emby-server (3.5.0.0) over (3.4.1.0) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of emby-server:
 emby-server depends on libc6 (>= 2.17); however:
  Package libc6 is not installed.

dpkg: error processing package emby-server (--install):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
 emby-server
[user1@[member="mother"] Downloads]$ sudo dnf install libc6
Last metadata expiration check: 0:43:19 ago on Sat 21 Jul 2018 12:32:23 PM CDT.
No match for argument: libc6

Thanks for any pointers!

argh!!!! Nevermind.  I see now you need to select your distrib to download the appropriate packages.  (I had the page not full screen and all I saw was the Ubuntu directions. It's ok now but it might help others to show no instructions on the initial page other than direction to "select your distrib".)

Why are you trying to install a deb on an rpm distro? Where did you even get dpkg...? Anyway, there's a big-ass dropdown to select the distribution on the download page, fedora instructions are right there with the others.

FYI two weeks ago i started running Emby Server on Fedora 30 beta, no problems to report, just alerts updates fails (asked in other topic, no big deal).

@@Luke : Quick question: why the beta releases are 4.1.0.25_x86_64.rpm and the stable are 4.1.0.26_x86_64.rpm?

I missed something? beta versions lower number release?

Thanks.

MASUDA

hello. first time emby user, long time PLEX user exploring alternatives.

i just setup emby on my CentOS 7.6.1810 server and that was a breeze. However, i'm trying to add my media files to libraries and this has not been smooth sailing. When I add a library for "Tv shows" it works perfectly. when i add a library for "movies", i get nothing but an empty library. tried it on 2 different folders with movies in them, and same result.

i can't find anything useful in the logs, the only mention of the folders with movies are these entries in the logs:

2019-08-01 12:02:17.819 Info LibraryMonitor: Watching directory /data/media/animation/Movies
2019-08-01 12:02:17.833 Info LibraryMonitor: Watching directory /data/media/tv_shows
2019-08-01 12:02:17.863 Info LibraryMonitor: Watching directory /data/media/movies

So it looks like it acknowledge my library folder configuration, but after that nothing. The "tv_shows" folder works fine though. All directories have world read+execute, and all files have world read permissions as far as Unix file permissions go.

Looking through the logs, there are Error entries related to TheTVDB, but not much else in terms of errors. Does that have anything to do with my problem? (I didn't think so.. but in case I'm wrong about that, please let me know)

Any suggestions? TIA.

Hi I am running a clean install of Fedora 30 and I followed the instruction on emby's website on how to install emby but server won't start. I get this error when I check the status of emby-server.service:

Hi Luke,

Seems like it keeps repeating if I do a journalctl -u emby-server.service -b I get:

I even tried removing both group and user for emby and reinstalled to no avail.

Not sure if this is an issue with the latest systemd version and Python3.

Any update would help.
