Bobbybare 2 Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 I have a number of .ts files which have been recorded from UK Freesat and Freeview which contain DVB Subtitles . Emby server will play the video files just fine but if the subtitle track is selected they will not even start to play. These files are playable with the subtitles in VLC Player. logs attached Hope someone can help Bob embyserver (6).txt
Bobbybare 2 Posted October 22, 2024 Author Posted October 22, 2024 To add to this thread; I installed Emby server on my Windows 11 just as a test and in this version these files play perfectly with subtitles selected. I guess it must be a bug in the Terramaster version of Emby Server v4.8.10.0 Bob
Bobbybare 2 Posted October 22, 2024 Author Posted October 22, 2024 I installed Beta version 4.9.0.30 on the Terramaster NAS and tried again. With subtitles selected after a short buffering period the video played with subtitles but the volume stuttered every time the subtitle changed. Very frustrating!! The device is an F2-221 running v5.1.67-00214 with Video playing it's only using 1.52% CPU and 17.68% memory. Bob

Luke 39809 Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Hi, can you please attach the corresponding ffmpeg log file as well? Thanks.
Bobbybare 2 Posted October 24, 2024 Author Posted October 24, 2024 I have played one of the offending .ts files for about a minute and attached the logs. Solution Carlo 4550 Posted October 26, 2024 Solution Posted October 26, 2024 Hi, The video being played has a DVBSUB subtitle which is a bitmap-based format. In order to transcode the video the transcoder has to burn in the overlay to make it part of the picture for each frame. This is quite intensive to do and is being done on the cpu vs gpu. Your server isn't fast enough to do this real time as it's speed=0.62x. You may wish to turn on subtitle downloading for each library: This will pull down text-based subtitles that won't require burn in. First configure Open Subtitle (Subtitle Menu) Then configure each library to download the subtitles.
Bobbybare 2 Posted November 1, 2024 Author Posted November 1, 2024 OK thanks Now I understand the problem. with this NAS its .srt or .ass subtitle files, I will be interested to see what happens when I can afford to upgrade my NAS to something more powerful. Thanks for the help. Bob
