I have 2 NAS in different physical locations: a DS718+ is the primary server, and a DS223 as an off-site backup.  I am using ShareSync to backup the all the content on the primary to the remote, on a download only basis (identical folder/sub-folder structure & naming).  I set Emby's metadata path to save to a shared folder on the primary NAS (separate from the media content itself), so it gets backed up to the remote also.  I bit the bullet & signed up for Emby Premier, so I am using Emby's Backup Plugin to back up the configuration to a sub-folder in the same shared folder as the metadata.

I haven't tried this yet, but I assume that if the paths/folder structure/naming & content are the same on both servers, if I do a restore from one of the configuration backups from the primary onto the destination, that Emby will "behave" the same way on both NAS's.  Is this correct?

Might there be any conflicts created by having the same server info active on 2 different NAS?  I would not be running them at the same time.  The backup would only be working as a server if the primary were down for maintenance, etc.

Pretty sure you will run into issue with both server fight for stuff as the /library id folder I am pretty sure are server dependent so on server could create one and the other server delete it per it as the ids don't match each database.  Now other stuff in the /metadata folder will be pretty transparent.

Yes custom path configured within Emby are maintained in a restore options and create really issues for all user restoring on different platforms/systems.

One thing you have to look at is if both server are going to be on they can not have the same server ids so you need to ensure that option is disable on restore or manually delete the device.txt in the programdata/data folder with the databases.

But currently there is no real way to sync servers that I know of or have successfully reported done.  Most effective way I think is Trakt syncing userdata.

Using the backup and restore plugin, you technically can do a complete clone, just make sure to uncheck the option to restore the server id onto the second machine.

Hmmm...

How about this:  Set up the remote destination server folder structure first.  Make sure all the files are identical.  SHUT DOWN the primary server.  Restore the primary server's backup onto the remote server.  Quickly rename the remote server, so it doesn't create conflicts with the primary one.  Turn the primary server back on.  I theoretically should end up with 2 identical servers with different names.

It occurs to me, however, that the Backup Plugin requires a Premier subscription, and would be required on the destination server to perform the restore.  I set a shared folder on the NAS as the destination path for the backups, so it SHOULD be present on the destination NAS.  However, I am not sure if my emby premier key will work on both NAS at the same time?

Do separate servers require separate subscriptions/keys, or does that fall under the 25 devices limitation?

I saw a Knowledge Base article on migrating configuration settings between servers using the Backup Plugin, but I think it was intended to end up with only 1 server running. @Carlo

You can use the same Emby Premiere license on multiple servers.

Your 25 devices license will be tracked for both servers at that point.  If the same client connects to both servers that's only 1 device license used.  What you can't do is have 25 devices on server A and 25 different devices on server B as that would be 50 different devices.  Make sense?
