redsmith 2 Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Hi everyone, I was wondering if it is possible to display the ‘Movies’ background color to match the artwork on Apple TV, just like it is for the ‘Music’ albums. Even in the ‘Music’ section, the background color change perfectly when we’re viewing the album, but when we press play, the background is grey and no longer matches. It’d be great to maintain this for each song while it’s playing! The 'Movie' section is very polluted on Apple TV. Fonts are very big, synopsis, buttons and tech texts are taking over all over the screen. It’d be a great improvement to let it more clean: texts on the left, artwork on the right. I miss the way iTunes used to look. Prints below: Emby (left); iTunes (right) on Apple TV. Please, consider these suggestions! 1. Be able to listen to songs with the background color matching the artwork; 2. Reorganize size display of texts and images on Movie section and let background match the artwork too, if it doesn’t have a picture to fill in.
Luke 40001 Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Hi, so you don't want to see your own backdrop images?
redsmith 2 Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 Yes, I do. But there are some movies that don’t have backdrop images, so the poster stays on the center with a grey background. That’s why I illustrated with the iTunes image on the right. It’s so much better to have a backdrop color matching the poster to fill in. But even in the cases that there are backdrop images, the texts take over the screen on Apple TV. It would be so much better to redefine this also, please. Like the example above. I hope it’s possible to see this update soon. And also, the matching backdrop color while playing music, as it mentioned.

I don't think we have enough control of the background to automatically generate a background like this. We can set an image or a fixed color, but it's not so easy to create a dynamic color theme to suit the artwork. How would that look if there were two tracks displayed, with one blue and one red? What color would the background be?
redsmith 2 Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 But it’s already possible on every album viewing, they’re all dynamic. It’s the first print on the left (a-ha): that’s Emby on Apple TV. I guess you only have to enable the same structure for when it’s playing the song in full-screen. The background should always match the artwork of the current song playing, even if there are two tracks displayed (it’s better to leave only the playing track displayed, like the app Music on mac) *and it’d would be a great improvement to copy this structure in the Movies area also.

The album view on the left is using a standard tvOS layout template and tvOS is generating the background automatically. There are some built-in templates where this occurs, and others where it does not. For the Now Playing layout, there is no built-in layout that can provide that functionality, so this layout is customized and we can't easily add the type of background that you want. There are some limitations with this platform, some things that are relatively easy, and some things that are not. Maybe in the future there is a better way and we can add it, but for now this is not an easy change to make.
redsmith 2 Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 Thank you for the explanation! I hope it’s possible in the future this standard tvOS layout template for playing as well. Meanwhile, consider on the Movies section readjust the spaces: text on the left and artwork on the right, for a cleaner view on Apple TV. P.S.: There’s something else I noticed… on Music, the Playlists created has the L on capital letter on the name, written “PLaylists” (different from the other names pattern). I tried to rename, but it keeps showing on the Music area and on the main page the native name. 1

The layouts generally try and match the web app and other platform clients so that there is a consistent user experience. If the web app changes then we'll follow its layout. @Luke, there's an incorrect casing in the pt-BR translation 1
