Allensbad 4 Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 I just installed emby and so far I like it, I also just recently installed Plex and liked it except for the issue of plugin support being fazed out so I wanted to try something else. FYI I purchased a lifetime license for both Plex and emby so I don't think that has anything to do with my problem. Now on to my issue. I currently have a small sample of 24 older classic TV Series DVDs where I have all the seasons ripped to .mkv via MakeMKV. I installed the emby app from the TVs app store and everything worked out well, I was able to browse my emby server and had access to all the content I had loaded. Unfortunately, when I try to play any of the episodes I only get sound with a black screen, no video at all. I copied the episode to USB and inserted into the TV and was able to play it without issue, so the TV will play the file as it was ripped. One of the seasons were ripped from Blu Ray and that seems to play fine, also I created a library out of some random .mp4 files and they also played fine, it seems only the DVD rips have an issue. FTY. I also have the plex app installed on the TV and am able to play all the content without issue. Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me figure this out. SamES 1003 Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Hi, welcome to Emby! For some reason, the internal player had an issue Direct Playing 'D:\Media\TV Shows\24\Season 01\S01E01.mkv". If these were made by MakeMKV then I find that a bit weird, but not impossible. To resolve this, Emby has tried to replace the container, resulting in a DirectStream playback, but there is currently an issue in that Samsung can't DirectStream interlaced (480i) content and it needs to be transcoded. That's why you're seeing a a black video output. There is a fix coming for this, but I'm not sure which update it is in. If you want, you can PM a copy of the file to me (S01E01) and I can try and see what is not correct with it. If we can make sure it DirectPlays then that is the quickest way to resolve this for you.
Allensbad 4 Posted October 3, 2024 Author Posted October 3, 2024 Thanks so much for the quick reply! The one thing I wo with all my rips is remove all the subtitles, I don't know if that's a problem. I'll send you the file via PM. Thanks again Allen

Do you deselect them in MakeMKV, or do you use another tool after that to remove them?

Thanks I use MakeMKV to rip my DVDs, when you open the disc you just un-check the subtitles you don't want. 2
