JaiDD 0 Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 Even at the highest quality of 4k 200mbps (although my download speed is only 100), I get really egregious blocking and poor gradation in local streams. The files are on the same computer that I'm streaming on, and when playing in VLC, the quality is infinitely better. Any way to fix this?

GrimReaper 4154 Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 Specific example would be required. how to report a media playback issue Is that item being transcoded or DirectPlayed? What are media details? You can provide server log (and ffmpeg log, if created) for that session, as per above link.
JaiDD 0 Posted September 26, 2024 Author Posted September 26, 2024 (edited) I'm sorry, I'm really new to all this stuff. I don't know where to find everything you ask for. If you could direct me I can give you any of the logs you need. If it helps, this post here seems to have a similar issue, but I don't think a solution was ever found, unless I'm just bad at navigating the forums. Edited September 26, 2024 by JaiDD

You can download logs either from your browser (Settings>Logs tab in the sidebar>download desired log(s)) or directly from your filesystem. Quote Emby Server Logs There are multiple ways to access Emby Server and ffmpeg log files. Logs can be accessed directly within the server's web interface by navigating to Advanced -> Logs. Additionally, the front page of the Emby Server Dashboard contains a '...' menu with an option to show the path to your logs folder. If you're having difficulty using the web interface, logs can be found at: Windows: %appdata%\Emby-Server\logs Related KB article as well: Log Files @sa2000above linked article still missing screenshot(s) for yellow/red box references. 1
JaiDD 0 Posted September 26, 2024 Author Posted September 26, 2024 Alright I think I did it. I added the transcode log. If you need emby server txt / hardware detection I can also give you that! I've also added another screenshot of the issue. This is a better example I think. Some clouds. ffmpeg-transcode-e03a38d3-8953-43f2-af33-f1f2be4fb77e_1.txt
Solution GrimReaper 4154 Posted September 26, 2024 Solution Posted September 26, 2024 (edited) Quote &TranscodeReasons=SubtitleCodecNotSupported That item is transcoding due to unsupported graphical subs (typical for browser playback) - try playing that item without subtitles selected (or obtain/select text-based subs) so item would DirectPlay and then compare results. JaiDD 0 Posted September 28, 2024 Author Posted September 28, 2024 Yep! Turning subtitles off cleared the blocking. It seems like there are two types of subtitles on this movie, one being "SUBRIP" and the rest being "PGSSUB" The PGSSUB ones cause the transcoding issue whereas the SUBRIP one doesn't. Thanks for your help!
Luke 40096 Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 We'll also look at potential improvements to the transcoding process to try and avoid this. Thanks.
