External Access/Emby Login

I cannot get my server seen externally at all and, when I go to log in on the MAC it fills the password with a strong password which I cannot remove or bypass. I have set up an emby connect user ID and password but when I put them into the apps nothing happens. A bit lost

is it a fresh install? I assume you can get to the server locally? You have to link your emby connect account to your local account on your server.

Tried to do that, whenever I go to login it takes me to the screen and the password auto populates with suggested PW and CANNOT be removed to allow me to log in. If I go and separately log into the forum I can login with my emby connect account (which I’ve linked to the server login in my profile page) but doesn’t seem to do anything; and when I login to the app I can see my local media, but when I log in to emby connect nothing happens.

Well the forum account is not the same as your emby connect. On your mac open the keychain and you can just delete or copy the password there and then try to login. Just be sure to write down the details just in case.

Thanks Guunter, have deleted all the saved passwords etc and will try from scratch in the morning.

Still can't get it to work externally and have no clue what I'm doing wrong. Removed all passwords etc but when I try to login to Emby server on Mac the password auto populates and is not removable. I have my emby connect email address in the profile of the server but when I log in (off network) nothing happens. I'm normally absolutely fine with this stuff but this is proving to be so difficult.

On your mac go to Settings -> General -> Autofill & Passwords.

Then you can turn off autofill.

The Emby connect doesn’t make your server available outside your network by itself. You still need to port forward, setup a vpn, or reverse proxy to access it.

have the port forwarded, don't have VPN. I actually got a friend (IT Director at large University) to connect into my machine and look at all the settings and he was utterly bamboozled why it's not working as my Emby/router settings matched his identically

Hmm. And when you try to connect from the outside your using your public IP and port right? Not the your private IP from your LAN. @LukeMight need the logs to help you further.

Yes indeed, sir. I confess some of this goes a bit above my head at times (specifically networking which I HATE) but, as I said, I got a guy who knows his stuff to RAS in to my machine and check and look at all settings

@Lukelet me know if sending any logs would help and, if possible, what logs? Thank you to both yourself and @guunter for trying to help, it's appreciated.

My original post was that it looks like you're missing the Internal Port (LAN) in the config. But I double checked and when left empty the Asus routers will use the same value as the External Port entered. In other words the Internal Port is optional when the values are the same. This also applies to a list and a range of ports.

You need to add the Internal Port value as well. That's at least one of the things missing.

Connections should flow:

Internet client --> WAN IP:WAN PORT --> LAN IP:LAN PORT

Service Name: Emby
External Port: 8096
Internal Port: 8096 (?)
Internal IP Address: Emby server LAN IP

I added the internal port and still won't connect when off home network, just says 'unable to reach server' , thanks for the advice though, was hopeful that would be the silver bullet!

Yeah, I updated my post because internal port is optional when they're the same on these Asus routers.

Hi,

Are you sure your ISP isn't using a CG-NAT?

Spoke to them and they have given me a static IP, which seems to have solved the same issue on Plex
