My expectation was that yes play the season but do not auto advance. One can argue that when selecting an episode and pressing Play on that episode then the auto advance setting should never apply and we should only play that episode as that is what the user asked to be played. In fact, one can take this argument further and say that the auto-advance setting should only apply when selecting Play on a Season Edited September 20, 2024 by sa2000 1
GrimReaper 4154 Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 I'd say that no logic there is unequivocally right or wrong, it has more to do with one's expectation/envisioning of how the feature should behave. Personally, wouldn't mind seeing it implemented across the board, irrespective of whether playing individual item or a list/sequence of items and act as sort of delimiter, but I can understand current logic and can live with it, as well.
sa2000 410 Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 I agree and happy with it now that I know. But I think the setting scope is the wrong way round - it should only apply when a playback request covers a sequence of epiodes
sa2000 410 Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 (edited) This is an interesting topic. Lets now think that this Advanced user Playback setting "Play next episode automatically" applies to only single episode playback requests - because playback for a list of episodes would always play next. I think this would be reasonable way to think of it, if the setting was off by default and it is clearly worded that it applies for single episode requests. So basically the default woul be just play this episode that I selected unless I tick this setting and then I make single episode playback requests to be similar to season or shuffled or playlist playbacks Edited September 20, 2024 by sa2000

You request to play a collection of items (a season) but you want confirmation on whether or not to play the collection you just requested..??

Fine. But I would like us to have some explanatory text associated with the Playback setting. How about adding this sentence ? I could not find any support articles relating to most items in the user settings for Display, Home Screen, Playback .. I think, if we add a sentence like the suggestion above for the" Play next episode automatically" user setting, it would be sufficient and there is no need for a support article. The above suggested text assumes we stick to the default of that setting being preset as selected. 1

It seems this issue is one that others have as well, so I will share my thoughts. The settings as they exist now presume a perspective that the users prefer to have subsequent episodes play automatically. This is not true of all users. I don't see why this is a challenge to implement, much like many of the other suggestions I see floated on these forums. Having to click into individual episodes is, quite frankly, unnecessary and makes the platform clunky. If the user already said they don't want you to play the next episode, you shouldn't whether I select the season or an individual episode. "Play next episode automatically" should be a GLOBAL setting. If I go through the trouble of unchecking the box, I probably prefer to not have episodes keep playing no matter the circumstance. 2

For instance, if you hit play from an episode in the "Continue Watching/Next Up" row, it will follow the option as to whether or not subsequent episodes play. However, if you click "Play" on a Season or Series, then that is asking to play the season or series. I guess maybe we need to restore the old button we used to have here which was "Play next up episode" and then also have "Play All" with a sub-menu of whether or not to shuffle. 2
Neminem 889 Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 (edited) I do miss those buttons to click "play episode" and "play all" in the new "OneAppToRuleThemAll" app you are pushing for. Its 1 of the reasons I still use the old Android TV app, its still in there. Edited September 27, 2024 by Neminem

Unfortunately, as I mentioned in another thread about a different issue, the continue watching list is useless to me because it continues to show comedies I've rewatched many times. If I could exclude those, I would definitely use the continue watching area to watch shows more often. Nevertheless, I think this is a function issue apart from that conversation. I would suggest there should be a setting that applies to all areas of Emby that never plays the next up episode if the user chooses. Obviously it would be great to have more granularity. For instance, a choice about whether or not next episodes play automatically when you are using a playlist or not, for instance. But if I had to choose, I would rather the setting be applied globally. Edited September 27, 2024 by Blam84

I understand the confusion that exists here and I think the proper solution is to go back to what we had before with an explicit "Play next up" button on that Series screen.

Thanks for the response, I replied to the other thread, so I'll drop this one here so we don't keep two plates spinning.
