A lot of videos are stopping only 10 seconds into playback

I have no evidence that this used to work, however it feels like most of my movies no longer play!
About 18:22 in the logs attached I attempted to watch a film, which I have watched before - around a year ago, maybe?

The LG app is up to date.

The server is on 4.8.8.0.

From what I can tell it's when it's DTS 5.1.
'TRUEHD 5.1' and 'AC5.1' are working, I think.

When it does hang, I check the dashboard on the server and there's a red bar (Presumably it's transcoding) but even when that gets to full it doesn't continue playing?

Anything I can do?

Like I say I'm 99% certain these files have played before, so I don't know if it's the TV (LG C2), the app, the server, etc..?

I'm having the same issues. When I look at my routers activity I get a huge spike on the start of the stream, but afterwards it drops off a cliff and it buffers constantly. It only happens with my 4k content but not my 1080p content

Hi @Luke, thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, still having the same issue.

We've stopped using it a lot since it's happened to be honest, we found a workaround in using Chromecast instead from the app on our phones but then we have issues with not being able to scrub the file or resume from where we were.

I've gone and retested just now after updating to the latest server version (Running as a service)

I've attached the logs, around 20:20 was when I attempted to play a film.

I first tried playing normally, this time round it didn't even play the intro, just stuck on a black screen for 20+ seconds.
Then I tried to remove transcoding permissions on my account, it played without Audio for the normal 10s then stopped.
Then I turned transcoding back on, and it played for 10s or so with audio, then stopped as expected.

Again I have no proof but the fact we've stopped using it is a fair indicator, previously we used this ALL the time, and had watched a lot of the library.
Possibly something LG have changed (LG C2), sad all the same :(

Any suggestions?

Hi @Luke

I've got nearly the same problems as described before.

I bought my new LG Smart TV (55UR75006LK) on 10. December 2024 and all movies played fine, even those with DTS...

Approximately a week later, LG got an software update for the TV. After installing the update I encountered films stopping at about 9 to 18 seconds after playback started.

It happens only with DTS, DTS-HD, etc... I guess even with True-HD, but I'm not sure... 1080p or 2160p doesn't matter... 5.1 or 7.1 doesn't matter, they all freeze after 9-18 seconds.

Only workaround I found so far, is to "force" emby to transcode not only the audio but also the video by setting the maximum stream to anything lower than the original video.

For example: video would normally stream with 16mps per Direct Play -> setting limit to 15mps

On my second Toshiba Smart TV (43UA2063DG) everything works with HEVC and DTS played per Direct Play...

Hi, have you updated to Emby Server 4.8.11 and Emby for LG 1.0.46? Has that helped?
