joshinils 12 Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Using "mkvmerge -J" I can see metadata tags I've written using https://mkvtoolnix.download/ Amongst them are "Commentary", "Visually Impaired", "Hearing Impaired", "Original Language". The valid values for them are missing/None and True or False. If present, one could filter by original language, or by available language (i.e. dubs). I would also like to set a list of languages I am able to understand (German native speaker, English as second language). Current behavior is; I've set my account to use English as preferred audio language; it plays English (if it exists). I would rather any movie which is originally German but also has an English dub would play in German, not the English dub. Also, if there is a regular and a commentary track it could choose the regular track over a commentary track if it were placed first in the file. I could then also filter my library by original language, since the video track can also have the same tags, even if there is no corresponding audio track present with the same language. 2
Luke 38940 Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 Hi, yes I think importing the status of both Commentary and Visually Impaired would make sense, and then we could add features based on that data.

"Play default audio track regardless of language" is the option you're looking for.

Well, most -if not all- of my media doesn't have that set, or not correctly. I've never checked if it is correct. And since most non-german original media with a german dub has the german as the default language, such that a player in germany plays it in german by default (which is sensible of course). I doubt that would work the way I'd want it to. Regardless, default track is a per file setting, what I want is a per account setting. Which track should be the default anyway, 7.1, 5.1 or stereo of the same language? I wouldn't know how to decide. 1
