Hi, I am struggling to use remote access via my android once I go off from my WIFI connection. Everything works fine on wifi but as soon as I switch to mobile data and try to connect with my server (hosted on desktop) - it says unable to reach. Please ensure it is running

Hi, is this your first time trying to connect remotely from any device? Do you know your remote ip address?

Posted

First time, yes.

Yes, I know my remote IP

I have tried steps in https://emby.media/support/articles/Remote-Setup.html - If the IP address matches the next step is to enter the PORT (8096 or 8920) to test on canyouseeme.org. If it succeeds your Emby Server should be working remotely. If this test fails you should re-check the setup mentioned above. If you have any issues please visit our forums for assistance. It fails every time in https://canyouseeme.org/ (Error: I could not see your service on port (8096))

@Daunt

Can you show us how exactly you setup port forwarding in your router? Thanks !

Has Remote access ever worked?

Did you do the tracert test in the linked KB to see if your ISP is CGNAT?

This is the 1st time I am trying this.

tracert test done. No line start with 10., 192. or 172 as mentioned in Remote Setup guide.

Please let me know if those pictures content can posses a threat to my system as it contains IP links. I will delete those.

When you configured your addresses in port mappings, are you sure those values are correct? Where did you get them from?

Don't know if conflicts can happen with UPNP and manual forwarding but should be one or the other.  But would question the manual port forwarding setting but every router does something different as external source IP is usually empty.  Not sure on the external port number not being populated either but would have to look this router model online.

If you remove manually configured port forwarding does UPNP work and the port shows open?

Router is Huawei HG8145V5. I have tried with UPNP turned off with manual forwarding & vice-versa. Nothing seems to work.

No. Port still doesn't show as OPEN.

Internal Host is My system IP.

External Source IP Address is my remote IP, I got it from EMBY DASHBOARD -> Remote (WAN) access IP

Not familiar with that particular model, but based on your screenshot it needs to be amended IMHO:

External Source IP Address: Blank

External port number: 8096-8096

External source port number: Blank

See how does that compare.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried your recommendations but still it does not work. Also checked result in https://www.canyouseeme.org/ for both ports, it still says Error: I could not see your service on 122.161.78.XXX on port (8096)

And you've confirmed that your internal IP is correct (if DHCP assigned it might've changed) and Emby server actually running?

If you temporary put your device in DMZ, does the port show open (don't forget to take it out of DMZ after test)?

I'm getting out of ideas. You're positive you're not behind CG-NAT? Is there double NAT in your network? Are you using VPN maybe? Have you tried disabling IPv6 in your router?

Posted

I really appreciate your efforts. See results for tracert 8.8.8.8 test for CGNAT. No double NAT. No VPN. Tried w/o IPv6 as well. Nothing seems to work for me.

Save using some tunelling software (Tailscale, ZeroTier etc.) or VPN (with port forwarding support) to potentially go around whatever limitation your network is imposing, I honestly don't know what else to suggest.

Hmm is there a firmware update for the router ?

It might be a firmware bug, in the router.
